Tax prep recommendation

Can anybody please recommend someone to prepare my tax return?  I just got a real kick in the balls from H&R Block.

I have no idea what happened.  I usually get back around $2k.  I got married in 2022 and I have been filing jointly since then.  My wife is salaried and changed jobs in December taking about a $10k a year paycut.  The job she had through December is the same job she had for for all of 2023.

We got through my W-2 and the federal return was about $1k, which is pretty standard.  When we added my wifes info, all of a sudden it jumped to us owing $8k.  How in the world is that possible if she was working the same job?

Were supposed to be closing on a house in a little over a month and were counting on the tax return to give us a little extra dough to buy some essentials as first time home owners.  Now with what we owe Im not sure we will even have enough for closing costs.  I have no clue what to do, hopefully somebody can help.

I trust Finest Financial up in Rockland completely. Very far from the shady tax preparers MOS usually end up with.

That said, got married recently and the marriage penalty under current tax regime is real, got shellacked. SALT cap hurts. The folks at Finest can at least do what they can for you and explain why youre getting hurt better than H&R Block ever would.

 No.

It makes so little sense that I feel like there has to be mistake.  A typo on a W2 or something.  Decimal point in the wrong place.

How can nothing else change?  I made less money without the cop retro.  She made the same.  Same dependents (0), same deductions.  If we owed, maybe even 1 or 2k, thats sucks but ok.  Ive heard cops say theyre in the boat before.  But $8k?  When I owed nothing last yearit makes no sense.

i really dont know what Im gonna do especially since the sergeant retro is apparently not going to be what I expected
