it says effective 1/1/24... Does that mean Detectives promoted to sgt won't go to top pay until January (assuming sgt don't settle yet) or will it be on all classes going forward?
That's not what happen with the PBA... The first couple of classes went in and the pay wasn't in effect but the contract was ratified. They still went to step 5.
Yea idk I believe thats when the new salary steps take into effect . Prior to the contract there were more steps I think 5 so they cut it down to three.
If someone could shed some light on this/ clarify / and correct me if Im wrong:
Despite a ratified contract, POs promoted prior to August 1 (when the PBA raise took effect) did NOT go to top pay.
End of August promo and end of Sept promo were the only 2 classes thus far where newly promoted cops went right to top Sgt pay.
Per the new DEA contract, pay raises will not go into effect until January 2024.
Thus, if you are a Det, wouldnt it make sense to defer until January 2024 and be able to go to top pay? Any promo prior to that would still go to a lower step?
Again Jan 1 is for the new salary steps . Pay attention to the new salary as of 6-1-23 its 114 making it more than whatever step 4 is for sgt with put you automatically at top pay .
Lionel just stated that the January 2024 date was the step changes .. True or not I don't know.
As for PO .. the first couple of classes didn't go to top pay but they went to step 5 prior to the date the raise took affect because contract was ratified. Yes they went to top pay in the last 2 classes because that was a NEW step they reached in July putting them over Sgt step 5.
I see what youre saying but 6/1/23 is just a retroactive date, it says on the cover of the contract on the above posted image the raises go into effect January 2024. Just because a contract is ratified doesnt mean pay rates go right in effect. Thus the first few PBA classes not going to top pay
I guess what Im saying is, it seems as a Det, wouldnt it be best to wait until 1/24?
It says salary steps affective .. meaning the new salary steps.. use to be 6 now 3.
Also with PO they went to step 5 (or whatever second to last step was) prior to the the effective date.. They went based on the retro active date once it was ratified.
It looks like everyone is getting confused with the steps that start 1/1/2024. If you look at the Side by side comparison chart. Its says effective 6/1/23 a top pay detective goes to 114,522. So if that's the case, then a top pay detective should go to top pay SGT. You don't have to wait till 01/01/2024.

Sergeants who were promoted 1-3 years ago really got screwed. Everyone is making more money then them. They are stuck at 96k for 3 years.
Going forward will promoted Detectives go to top pay now that the DEA contract has been ratified and their pay is higher then current step 5 Sgt.
As of right now, while the SBA is still out of contract, yes. When the raises for the DEA kicks in around end of Nov/beginning of Dec, Detectives promoted to Sgt will now be going straight to top pay, regardless of what step they are at in the DEA contract.
When the SBA ratifies their contract, the DEA is going to be right back in the same boat. You will need the full five years in rank as a Det. to reach Top Pay as a SGT. What it will boil down to is the 2.25%.
The new DEA contract has shortened the top pay time to 3 years but you still don't get the 2.25% until you reach 5 years in rank. And that is what puts you over the threshold needed to go straight to top pay. If you look at the pictures posted here in this thread, when you look at the contracts for the current years where the pay will be the same, you will not be over the fifth step in the SBA contract unless you include the 2.25% which you get at five years.
SBA Proposed raises once their new contract is ratified Dec 10, 2021 - Dec 9, 2022
DEA isn't 5 year steps anymore (think its 3), and Detectives should be going to top pay AS OF NOW not end of November since contract was ratified just like when the PBA was ratified prior to the first class but pay wasn't in affect yet but they still went to step 5 sgt.

So, according to this: from July 2024, to December 2024, POs will be making more money than a 3rd year (Step 4) Sergeant, even though both unions will have up to date contracts. Doesn't make any sense. Where did these numbers come from? Because the SBA still hasn't said a word about it.
If somehow that's accurate, these ancient decrepit baby boomers have truly run this union into the fucking ground. Hopefully they're enjoying all the money they embezzled from their members.

Well this was the calculated numbers based off of the raises all the unions agreed to and a draft of the steps. The SBA hasnt signed anything yet and is still working out details in their contract that could change all this. During their last meeting they mentioned to the delegates part of the issue they are trying to work out with the city is getting all those SGTs promoted prior to these rookie top pay SGTs up past what the cops are making right now. The details still need to be worked out but word is they are considering not giving those specific SGTs retro for those two years or possibly including a seventh step to their contract to make up for all this. Bottom line is we arent going to know the exact numbers and information until the it comes officially through the union when they have a tentative agreement with the city.
