So P.Os with 5.5+ years on the job getting promoted after August will be making 106K or 118K as Brand New Rookie Sergeants in BMOC ? I keep hearing different things
How much time in rank as Detective do you have? Or how much in rank will you have when you get promoted to Sgt? pretty sure Detectives with over 5 years in rank go to top pay still. I reached out to labor relations and they told me I will go to top pay.

From what Ive been hearing, yes you go straight to top pay.
You guys keep saying that new SGTs that just graduated BMOC go straight to TOP PAY. Is the TOP PAY you guys are referencing about 118K or is it a lower amount than that ?
Thank You TAKETHEDAY . I am only a couple classes away so salary wise do you think its more beneficial for the SBA to settle then get promoted or would it be better to get promoted in the next month or two, go to current Top Pay and then contract settling after the fact ?
You should absolutely take the promotion lol. They are trying to sort it out as we speak, so that the new first step will be barely more than what a top pay PO makes now. If you get promoted before the SBA settles, then you probably jump to the last step before top pay when they settle their contract* however they decide to work it out. And like he said youll be at 118K base pay in the meantime
Basically, take the promotion, make way more money your first 4 years in rank before you hit top pay

Yes take the promo right now last step before top pay is like 105,600 cops make 105,200 i think. So taking the promo now you would go to 118,000 and most likely be held there for 5 years until the new top pay is decided. If the new step 1 becomes 105,600 or something close to that then thats what youll get which is a $13,000 difference and the PBA will have 109,000 base next August so youll still make less then cops come next summer. Unless the SBA negotiates a higher step 1 which I highly doubt, Always take the promo, and I would imagine they settle by end of month, the city definitely hates giving people Top pay so trust me this situation will most likely expedite things
But this is all just my opinion, I havent heard any actual info

Once settled, new sgts will be a couple hundred dollars more than what the top pay for PO will at the end of their contract (I believe they will be around 109k) to avoid future issues.
And to what someone posted above, take the promotion regardless of all this top pay mix up, everyone wouldve took it at 96k, why play roulette when we have no idea what the SBA will do.
If your a police officer with 5.5 yrs in rank you go to step 6 sgt pay ( TOP PAY 118k base salary) and thats it. Your grandfathered into the sba contract as a top pay sgt WHICH MEANS when they settle the new contract whatever TOP PAY is then you also will be there. The only thing you dont get is the 5 yrs service differential that the sba worked into their last contract which is approximately 1200 a year ( sort of like pba nco pay)
the above also applies to DETECTIVES WITH 5 yrs in RANK OR MORE.
IF YOU WERE A DETECTIVE WITH LESS THAN 5 YRS IN RANK OR A P.O. WITH LESS THAN 5.5 YEARS ON you go to to STEP 5 SGT and your stuck at that step for 5 yrs. So whatever the new step 5 sgt pay scale is for the new sba contract you automatically go to that and are stuck there for the next 5 yrs.
This information was confirmed and corroborated by Labor Relations after conferral with City Payroll. SBA also confirmed this information is accurate.

Ok so if you get Top Pay now you go to the new Top Pay when the contract is settled. Even more reason why I think this will get settled ASAP if the new top pay is lets say 155,000 they definitely do not want new SGT getting that pay 5 years too early

Is this info you heard from anyone or just your opinion as well because that would be best case scenario for all SGT not at top Pay
If you get promoted before the SBA ratifies and you qualify to be at top pay your won the lottery take it and be happy. Theres sgts with 4 yrs in rank and your making more than them day 1 out the gate. Same with people going to step 5 sgt. Take it and be happy you get to skip steps. Unless your going to gamble if your a detective with less than 5 yrs in rank and go down to the puzzle palace, raise your right hand and voluntarily demote yourself back to Police Officer . Not sure how thats going to fly but hey wont know until you try.

No, they know about this discrepancy since before the list came out. The SBA sent email forecasting this happening and still monthly promotions, with the two most recent 85.
Agreed. The City/ SBA both knew the current PBA salary and requirement to give a promotion raise, and still promoted 3 classes to step 4 pay and 1 class to top pay. A few hundred top pay Sgts wont bankrupt the city in the grand scheme of things. The reality is the job is very short Sgts, and they will still need to promote. Dont think theres cause for concern there.
Lets hope for a September class, and big one at that. Obviously as mentioned any PO promoted before the sgts settle will be at top pay, which is a huge game changer for our financial situations.
Lionel, KeyCapt and any others with a history of solid Intel please keep us posted!

A lot of rumors going around of LTs getting promoted this class at the end of the month. Would that mean that a larger amount of sgts will get made to make up for the guys becoming LTs?

It honestly has no bearing the last few classes from the 2016 list were almost the same they would do 50 SGT 50 Lt but the fact that there alot of vacancies means they probably will do more SGT
Does anyone have any Intel? Im hearing the possibility of not promoting sergeants for a while. Just rumors but it would be awesome if someone has Intel. Thanks.
@watcher5 can you get a life and quit trolling? All you do is post nonsense. No one finds it funny.
I know you like to get a rise out of people and get us amped up so Im not putting fuel to the fire. But everyone just know this dude is a loser who has nothing better to do.
Some of us are here because we actually take getting promoted seriously and are here for valuable Intel.
The worst part of this job is truly the people inside of it..
If you have been part of this forum and actively reading the past few months he has been trolling for a while. Even admitted to it and how he gets a kick out of it.
