The Current NYPD sergeant vacancies is 600yes a lotbut the job is not hiring enough officers in order to promote the remaining 263 names on the current Sergeants listwhat are the odds of the first two classes of the 2022 exam list being able to take the March 2023 Lieutenant exam ?
Zero my guy. You need 1 day in sgt rank to file and take the exam. You can't file as a PO. Your best shot is filing date pushed, other than that no chance.

If thats the case then what makes you think theyll be so quick to promote off the 2022 list? Theres going to be a few lawsuits, best case this list gets established by June.

1 day in rank to take sit and take the exam. DCAS will take anyone's money, so anyone can "sign up" for it.
However, I still agree that there's no shot this list is established and promoted from before March.
List can come out in January.and possibly a class placed in late Feb early March ?
A list in January would call for an unprecedented 5 months from exam date (August to January). With this exam being the largest in NYPD history, you're only lying to yourself if you think there's a chance of that happening. Mind you, I say this as someone who will be in the first class from this list, and would love to be able to take the LT exam immediately without waiting... but the reality is we won't be taking it.
I say the earliest we see this list is April, possibly May
Also, before you say "but this test was computerized, that should speed it up!", the last Captains exam was also computerized, and I believe the list took 8 months from exam day.

Out of curiosity how do you KNOW you're in the first class? Seems like a bold claim.

And, no, no one unfortunately will make the Lt exam. Its also scary that they arent hiring enough cops to promote sgts. If they stop promotion off this current list, are we expecting a slow down and seeing very few classes for this upcoming list ?

I think a good indicator will be the current list. If everyone gets made (not including passovers because thats always a wildcard ) then everyone will have a better idea of whats going to happen going forward.

Was the previous captain list to that exam exhausted? They just gave a captains test and the last list is exhausted, will see how fast they put that list together. Also, theres 263 names on the current list. Say everyone is promoted by January, youre saying the nypd will not have a lost until 4 to move months later? I disagree.

I beg to differ. The current list has more than enough to fill vacancies and they just can't due to attrition of all ranks, but especially POs.
If there aren't enough POs to supervise, you don't need as many supervisors.
This year had an unprecedented retirement/run out the door numbers. Almost double from last year. My command just lost 8 in 2 months.
Once again DCAS does not care that the NYPD is short bosses. Its its own agency and has to do their own job. The NYPD is not going to call DCAS and say please hurry up we need bosses! Then DCAS says no prob i got you fam.
Lol. Do you remember the last time a sergeants lost was exhausted without having one pending ?
This is actually a good question for some of the old-timers here. Historically, how long has the job gone without a current list? Since this one expires in January, it will be interesting to see how long they hold out without being able to promote.
I believe it was posted on the captains forum. A few months ago, I believe the vacancies was in the mid 400s.
I think its all speculation. its a numbers game from what I hear. Job likes to average 1 SGT per 8 cops more or less. Were a few thousand cops short right now from manpower in 2016-2017 so I cant imagine it being that high. But hope so.

Yea, you can be right. It makes sense
Which is why I cant see a big curve coming. would be tough to get through 2400 let alone even more In a 4 year span.
