Throwouts/Protest Session

Does anyone have an idea if there have been throwouts or double answers on previous Captain exams or is this rare compared to Sergeant and Lieutenant exams?  I know anything is possible but lets say you get a 69 or 68 is there realistically a chance of making it?  Also, Im wondering if Lieutenants care enough to attend the protest session at all or they just take the score and move on.

I think I know which one you're referring to. There's also the one that referenced the wrong procedure, so that's two right there.

Throw outs are highly unlikely on Captains exams ,.............if you scored anywhere from a 60-69, you're hanging by a thread,....sorry but it's the truth.

I would have to disagree, I could guarantee you AT LEAST 3 throwouts. Very clear throwouts, and that doesn't even consider the double answers.

I'm also hearing this test had an average score of the mid 60's. Still unknown how many passers though.

Believe me..there is no one more than me that would love to bash the fraud that is DRpapi. But even he remembers what it felt like during the 2015 Lt exam and would not even think about submitting the questions to DCAS that we saw on that exam. The exam writers were probably the same haters that didnt want the 2015 Lt exam list expanded. if you remember there were a handful of then sgts that were pissed at the 9 heroes for their lawsuit. What makes things even worst is that the majority of the exam writers probably took the straight forward 2017 capt exam. The more and more I think about it, especially those exam writers who submitted those obscure questions to DCAS, the more pissed I get!

I could confirm that at least TWO of the exam writers took and barely passed the easiest Captain's exam in the history of the NYPD. They were both in the 70's for that easy exam, yet they gave us this garbage.

I'm NOT one of the exam writers. I agree with PD2FD, those writers are clowns for what they did. No need to make an exam that difficult. Although TheForce hates me with passion LOL, I think it's only right for all of you to protest the questions. Stay positive, focused and begin preparing on your rebuttals.

Getting back to my original question. Id say almost every Sergeant and Lieutenant exam given over the last 20 years has had throwout/double answers of some sort. Anyone have info if that happened with prior Captains exams, does this happen just as often as the other ranks? Do Lieutenants show up to protest?

My buddies saying the questions were crafted very tight. A lot of them see only 1 question (MAYBE) thrown out and 1 DOUBLE answer! Please dont discuss the questions. Thank you!

I agree. Two at the most. I dropped ball on some of these. The one will be a throw out that we all know but this exam was written very tight and straight up. Obscure stuff from the procedure and material not tested often. Just very difficult exam but there wont be many tossed maybe just the 1. And a lot of guys didnt show

  • Heard the same. About 5-7 at Brooklyn location and they all scored well. So how much could they fight for ???? My buddy scored a 66 and is not going,.guess people are giving up,realizing it was a very difficult exam. Again, congrats to all of those who made this list. By far the most difficult Captains exam in NYPD history. Still sticking with the 120 rumor,.hope its not true,we will soon find out.

7 people protesting??? That doesnt sound accurate. But as your parents used to say, the doctor is always right.

Yea i fought for every question I got wrong. Hopefully can pick up some points for all of us. Idk about you guys but i was so pissed going back through that exam. The exam writers should be ashamed of themselves for submitting those questions! Totally nonsense! In the end we are our own worst enemy. The end of my promotional exam journey is over but the fight of the 9 heroes will live on forever!

Everyone involved is to blame. From the exam writers, to DCAS, to the NYPD. No one put in a good effort to create a decent/fair exam.

I feel bad for the Sgts about to take the Lieutenants exam. I'm hearing the LTs that will be selected will only have 6 weeks to create questions for that exam. The captain exam writers only had 8 weeks, so just imagine the debacle-to-be with the LT's exam.

Yeah, I can see this list being in the 300s depending how many scored 68/69.
