Unless they plan on just letting it be all summer and then just pumping up the numbers at the back end of the year to exhaust the current list. Followed by mass promotions from the next list.

Wait till they see how many retire come July, thats a huge class coming up. Even if the rumors of nothing till September are true, a huge increase in Sgt vacancies could change that

Even during covid they didnt last 6 months without promotions. So I honestly dont believe that there wont be any classes till sept

I am hearing they are waiting for summer too. But who knows at this point. Im guessing 1 more class and then a pause. But everything is subject to change with this Dept.

Yea thats what I been saying I heard since last week sounded crazy but too many people heard the same thing at 1PP and passed it along to me. I do agree that 1 more class then the pause on Promos but that would be awful for anyone over 2400 because now your hoping come September they have no hold ups and finish out the list. This DEPT is such a clown show nobody knows how to do anything right.

For what its worth they are also holding CO interviews for commands that are opening up for CO vacancies. Hopefully these aren't 1 in the same.

Look man they usually average about 6-7 classes a year we already had 1 so if there is a class in next month then there would be around 330 names left so I think even if there is only 3-4 more classes they will most likely will finish the list, But Im saying just in case take the next one in case something happens because you just never know. If there was say another class in June for 100 then I would say 100% the list is gonna be finished.

Exactly well said My point is either way if ur over 2400 you should take the test just in case, in the event ur jammed up or Something and in the unlikely event the list is cut. But I think they should finish our list

Everyone needs to relax. The last time they cancelled dates they made up for it by putting in a massive class to catch up. You're insane if you think they're cutting the list now and not promoting any sergeants for the year. It's probably a good idea to register for this test in case you individually get jammed up, but the sky is not falling.

I know everyone is a little bit nervous right now about their future as a Sergeant in the NYPD. I am too. However I want to give everyone my insight, which I hope will help them feel a little more at ease.

All throughout our list, from the very first day it was established, people were saying this list is huge and its going to get cut. I never listened to the naysayers, because no one can predict the future and people on this job love to talk. There are a lot of factors that go into the amount of promotions such as retirements, resignations, terminations, budget approvals, total headcount reductions or increases and so on. So for anyone to put their two cents in on a list getting cut, they just dont know. If you were to ask the Mayor or the PC right now, they would give you their opinion and their plans, but they also cannot predict the future.

However based upon the list extension and the larges classes I believe that the whole list will get promoted. I believe the last number someone posted was 292 in terms of Sgt vacancies. This July will be the 20 year anniversary for a very large class of 2000 recruits, you have to figure theres a decent number of Sergeants in that and some may put in for retirement. With that being said, the number of Sgt vacancies is going to increase a lot between now and September. So even if they stop promoting between now and September, when September does come around they are going to need to promote a lot to catch up. It would only take two big classes to finish the list. Obviously I cannot predict the future either.

Yea I see what you saying and I agree with you and we all just try to share what info we are given at the time in this forum.. A couple weeks ago I said I heard no promos till September via the Mayors office and now His office directly just cancelled this months promos or possibly delayed them till next month. No one is trying to panic everyone here its simply that noone knows exactly whats going to happen. So when we get info that provides some insight We try to share. I used to be very outspoken about the list being cut before it was extended now I think otherwise and I have a few sources telling me the intent is to finish the list. But when I hear things like delayed promos and then a class of 150 just abruptly is cancelled with no clear reason, it makes me think the info Im getting has merit. I do believe the list will be finished but it will mostly likely not be till after September.

Just for some perspective on how short we are in Sergeants...I'm in a command where I'm the only supervisor assigned to the 3rd platoon...some commands are absurdly short. They have to promote people.

Rumors Im hearing is the beginning of April 150 to 160. I heard the paperwork was signed off on but they didnt want to do promotions this week. Take it for what its worth. They have no choice to promote people, everywhere we are short in supervisors. Even in the Squads we are short. Keep the faith, I think we are in for a nice surprise soon

No its more than just rumors 2 of my sources heard the same thing apparently they want a class next month just didn't happen this month we just have to wait and see hopefully within the next few weeks. Also NCO program looks like its getting phased out and becoming more like a conditions team wondering if that had something to do with the delay?

The dept can literally do about 220 for April and 220 for May if they really wanted to finish this list before the summer starts.

together and to have family take a day off work. Im assuming the finest would come Monday for this if true.

My source says early April. Don't know exactly when so just a guess on my part but those dates would make sense and I know the list of 150-160 was signed off on ready to go so I would think they would want that done ASAP

If all is true with a April class, they still have time to put in a May class before the summer starts.

If all is true with a April class, they still have time to put in a May class before the summer starts.

I really don't see that happening it seems like back to back classes just aren't getting done so I figure its either gonna be every other month or if the rumors are true this class in April and then none till September and they will prolly do a September and a December holiday promo to finish the list. If I had to guest but I could be wrong who knows what they will do anymore
