The majority of the lieutenants that left in the last couple months most likely have an effective date in July so that number will skyrocket once their off the books. The number will rise well above 100 vacancies come August 1.

Lots of these lieutenants have months of time in the books. Some even years, this your argument is no good.

The majority Ive seen in the past few months have an effective date of 7/20. Your statement has more to do with Captains and above who have massive amounts of time built up due to no cash overtime.

You guys understand that the vacancies are based on an authorized headcount of 36,000? And the council wants to drop that to 33,000. So this vacancy count is irrelevant come July 1

Sorry to intrude but thats only a 8.69% (9%) reduction in headcount. So if there are 10 vacancies you can deduct 9 for 91. Its not as drastic as you are making it seem. 33000 reduction of force with lets say for arguments sake was 1200 LTs with 9% OVERALL cut will just drop the headcount to 1085. Dont let your alarm bells ring, its miniscule in the grand scheme of things.

Thats one way of looking at it... or.... for the headcount of 36,000 LTs make up 1,700. Not for sake of argument. The actual number is 1,700. If the department reduces by 3,000. Thats 141 LTs gone. if vacancies are 65, you still need to get rid of another 76. That means 76 need to retire before anyone else gets promoted. if 160ish get promoted a year your looking at around 6 months of no LT promotions. I would like to be wrong. But thats how I see it

Then the job could also  easily extend these promotional lists  for another year since budget cuts and Covid19 restrictions may also hinder another round of exams.

Hes a loser white shield that has no friends and cant pass a basic 100 question test. A Sgt that use to pick on him  list number is in the upper 700s. Thats why he keeps saying the list is getting cut at 750. Dont pay any mind to him.

No one knows when or even if the list will get cut. I will say this. Its making it well passed 750. Thats just based on promo rates. They did 461 in less than 2 years and that was with 6 months straight of frozen promotions. The vacancies are most likely high enough to be comparable to what it was when this list started. I highly doubt this list doesnt go at the very least to 1k. But we shall see. Lastly in regards to extending the list. Its legal under civil servant law and can be done 1 year at a time for exceptional reason. To name a good example, the 2016 Sgts list is how old now? 31 months. So 17 to go. Right? The Dept has to assign people to write a new test. Right? That requires a classroom assignment and takes about 6 months to complete. Hows that assignment going to start if NYS/NYC isnt allowing classroom gatherings for school. So lets look at it like this. Has there been an extension on a recent test? No. Can there be? Yes. Is it possible? 100%, anything is possible. So the predictions are pointless. If theres a class at the end of this month you might as well count that within the 2 year mark of this LT list considering the month of June is the 24th month of this list. So lets see what happens. To speculate is pointless but to be unrealistic about what can or can not happen is also pointless. Can the list be extended? Yes. Will the list be extended? No one knows. Will they make it passed 750? I would bet, yes.  Just relax, wait and see.

I honestly dont know.  I can see them doing it just to kill the budget but who knows.  Reality is it doesnt matter.  Vacancies are there and whether they do them next week or fill every one in December they will eventually be filled.  When it comes to the budget we will know by July/August what the vacancies are and what the budget allows for each rank when it comes to fulfillment.  Im going to predict nothing will change in the rank of Lieutenant. At least not this fiscal year With or with out budget cuts

No good news. Hearing headcounts are shrinking and thats for all ranks so number of vacancies will drop. The argument of well precinct X doesnt have a lt will most likely be filled w units that will most likely be disappearing very soon :(

So what are you describing? All the units that are being dissembled, are being placed in pcts to be filled? @truthseeker
Is this your educated opinion? Not to get off to off topic here. I know at least 2 Lt's that are leaving in one of these units that they are getting rid of, so if there are many senior Lt's in them, more then likely they will just retire. These times are worse then ever, why risk there pension.

N.Y. joe the reduction in head count is not my opinion but it is what is occurring. Dont know how much each rank will decrease. It is my educated guess of the what they will do with disbanding units. They did it to crime and not every lt will be saved from one gig to another. Majority will go to patrol function like ac did

Some will go back to patrol, and some will go right back into another detail. Or some will just retire, so we shall see more next month. I figured nothing till after July, give them sometime to move people and well see. I kinda figured nothing for June 26.

I heard from a reliable source 3 more classes this year and probably 200 more for 2021 and then maybe 1 or 2 more classes in 2022 then list is done. Take for what it is this is what I heard I know people will say Im a troll bla bla Im just saying what I heard is it 100 percent accurate the answer is no but this person has been real reliable so far. He also said classes will be very small and they are eliminating a lot of LT positions, he even said they were discussing Lt ICO and SOL they want LTs more as desk officers and out on the field to supervise.

To everyone, I know you want answers. You can look at my past posts and see most of my info is accurate. Promos months from now are not predetermined. They often change daily or weekly. Please do not listen to forecasts for future classes. They are rumors at best. Focus short term as that will be the only viable information.

Promo months were never pre determined. They were always tentative. They change sometimes a week prior. When it comes to budget concerns and what this dept wants the simple answer is wait 2-3 weeks and you can check yourselves. If the vacancies are still in the ranks that means the money is in the budget for those exact promos. Promotions arent a guessing game. Theres vacancies and a budget created that determines those vacancies. If there are 5 vacancies and 10 people up for promo only 5 get promoted. Period. Sometimes they over promote but its rare. So as long as the vacancies are there when the time comes it is what it is. No one knows what the dept will do with promos. No one. Not Personnel. Not Omap. Not some random chief. Not some guy in 1PP. Not some promotional class. No one. And they never do. Its a waiting game. Youll know when it happens and thats when every one else knows. The most advanced knowledge any one ever has of classes are tentative months due to speakers being notified a month or two prior to the next class and then a week prior to the class to confirm it when personnel gets the list of names to assign shields to. And then even then the class can be postponed or cancelled due to decisions that change Outcomes.  Has happened many times.  Thats why rumors are strong for a class and all of a sudden no class. Most of the time it was a last minute cancel.  Just relax people. If its meant to be it will be.

About 89% of the budget is salaries and overtime.

The only way to make any legitimate dent to defund police is to lose cops through attrition and not replace them. Period.

it will also hurt the department operationally by losing cops thru attrition and not replacing them. IMO, the Dept better off eliminating numerous useless units and relocate manpower to patrol. No need to have community affairs bureau since we have NCOs. Get rid of barriers detail. Criminal Justice doesnt have to be on Bureau level anymore and Transit should be downsized.
