Too early to know about this . You have 4 years to wait and see . Remember a lot LT with 20 and plus will retire within the next 2-4 years plus we are going to have a big captains List . Its just a waiting game .
WORD ON THE STREET. Any one with a list number 800 and higher...not gonna make it.
Another word, It is highly unlikely 1400 lts will get promoted in 4 years. Sorry, by the way my list number is betwenn 800 and up.
Not even kidding around, I agree with this 1000%. 200 Lts a year for 4 years equals 800 promotions. Im just below 1000 and Ive put getting promoted out of my mind pretty Much. Look at the bright side, you keep your chart days and you wont have to work 45 minutes a day for free! LMAO

Cant say that just yet. The list hasn't even been out for a week yet.
Also Lts whole tour is shifting work to someone else.

So true lol. Minor job? Hey sgt do this. Very major job. Hey capt/co you need to respond.
Lol, this is a repeat of the 2011 Sgt forum. A bunch of nerds that can predict the future. The fact that you need to pass a mediocre 100 question test in the nypd to become a supervisor is not saying much. So many zeros that are supervisors.

Im not sure why people insist on talking about this cut-off. Just let the subject be.. people dont want to hear it. It doesnt bother me Im in the 1st two classes but this topic never ends well. People on the cusp want to try and be positive about things and we should let them. Yes theres a clear average but you never know what the future holds. Good luck everyone
1. 2019 is the last year of Lts current contract. No more raises from the mayor, definitely from next administration
2. Booming economy, more opportunities in private sector
3. Big captains list
I dont have inside info this is just common sense assessment.
If the current LT list is going to get cut and people are using the law of average to calculate promotion rate, then we will also need to look at the totality of the facts which also states that approximately 7% to 10% of the people on this current list will not get promoted due to reasons such as getting jammed up, retirement, or simplily decided to not take the promotion due to other personal reasons. Therefore, it is safe to say that if this current LT list will be cut in the future, the cut off list number will be higher than 800. It would be more like around 1000, assuming that the Department will promote an average of 200 to 230 LTs per year. But again, this is just a simple mathematical calculation with lots of unknown variables. In other words, dont stress your self out so much, only time will tell if everyone will be promoted to LTs in the next 4 years. Either way, good luck to everyone and stay safe.

If 92 off the new list go in in June, then assuming the historical average takes over, the test will reach list number 792.
Saying that 10% of the people would not get promoted for whatever reason I think is high but if that were true, using the current prediction for June and historical rates the list would get to number 872.
Someone here said there is something like 1600 Lieutenants on the job. Believing that there is going to be an 80% turnover in Lieutenants in the next 4 years I think is a little ambitious. I could be wrong, I don't know, and I certainly don't want to discourage anyone, but you need to be realistic.
Lets be realistic!!! There is no way in hell that everyone on that list is getting promoted!! The list will be cut!! Stop playing yourself if you think the list isnt going to die out!
800 and up your fine. 801 and down start studying and put more effort next time

I Completely agree with your cut off predicament. I believe though that they will reach 810 which Scored an exact 80.
Boys and girls, this is just a JOB! Its not that serious...and does not matter which rank you obtain on this job, you are still getting pay good wages and have tons of great benefits, and also a decent pension. Not many people out there in the real world can retire after 20 to 25 years of working at a job. Most of the younger people on this job can be retired in their 40s! That means if you get to live until your 70s or 80s, you will have another 30-40 years to enjoy life the way you want. So be happy, dont be stressed out with wether you will get promoted or not. No one here can predict the future.

Agree to a point. I'm here to make as much money as possible, no other reason. If you max out OT you get to a point where you just can't make any more, so you need to get promoted to make more $. I agree it's just a job and the fringe benefits are good, but in the end it's money that counts, and promotions come with more money, I don't care about the rank.
You are probably safe in the top 800. Just be ready to study again in three years if not. Don't think they can promote much more than 850. We'll see. The body camera argument has no relevance. 3/4 of the rank is in a detail. The remaining 1/4 can do the desk if the body cam bothers them. The biggest benefit for those on the bottom was the list coming out 3 or 4 months later then it should have. This will add at least one additional class. The three percent raise we just got will probably influence a handful of guys to leave in a year.... but thats about it. The number of LTs leaving at 20 and 25 has gone down and continues to go down. The LBA posted the attrition rate not so long ago but I don't have it handy. Anyhow, good luck everyone.
I agree Im in the 900s I just dont see them hiring more then 200 Lts a year, even with body cameras Lts are always there after the situation is over what do they care. If the pba gets a decent two year contract a lot of Lts are going to wait. Just my opinion.
Im slightly over 1,000 and feel it would be an absolute miracle to get promoted from this list. Oh well. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.
Im not saying the list wont get cut but nobody can predict what the next 4 years will be. Any LT currently on the job with 16 plus years on will be eligible for service retirement before the list could ultimate cut. There will be plenty of vacancies in the near future.
Damn ... some harshness going on in this thread ... cant we just be happy there is a list, that youve made it and be positive about the most amount of people being made??? ... why are people so pessimistic ?? Its always negative on this site and over the years progressively gotten worst ... the time to be having this conversation is when they plan to announce a new test and the possibility of the list getting cut to determine if studying again would be worth it ... congrats to EVERYONE for making the list ...
Gotta wonder about some of these *******s who are gonna be future lieutenants.
Guess what they say is true about the promotion process. If you're over 800 you don't deserve to be a lieutenant...what a bitchass thing to say.

Its cause they're miserable people. And we all know miserable people just want to make others miserable to feel better about themselves
Congrats on making the list of you did. If not theres always another time or work toward that SA pay. You'll make more than any of us who passed.
I know I will I did well on the test. But I don't need to make stupid remarks about anyone on the list.
Now please go be a bitchass somewhere else. I don't have anything to gain by putting down people who didnt score as high as I did. As of right now were all still sergeants.
I was wondering if anyone had an opinion as to why, if the NYPD is seeking to diversify the higher ranks, would the department cut the LT's list? I believe I heard that the vast majority of higher ups on this job are white males. This LT list contains the future Chiefs and Inspectors of the NYPD. For example, lets say that for every band of 20 eligibles on the LT list there are 5 African-Americans. Why would the department cut the list and deny the chance for dozens of Black Sergeants to rise to the higher ranks of the department? And then do the same thing in 4 years if they cut the next list? It doesn't make sense. Everyone at Apple computer tries to talk and act like Steve Jobs. However, NY City Hall, whether you agree or disagree, does not want every uniformed Officer in the NYPD to look and act like Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill.
