Sgt Vacancies

I get the pension emails everyday. Not that crazy of numbers. I think I see maybe 10. Not sure if this is what you consider crazy numbers. So going on opinion only, w MASS overtime now coupled w draconian budget cuts ( Im talking real cuts not ot monthly going down for one month and back up again) I can see massive retirements after this. If the numbers meant everything to me, why leave now? Getting few months of massive overtime is worth it to me knowing Im done after all this is over. That be my plan atleast

 Every day the pension section puts out a message through Z finest with who went to the pension section that day. Truth seeker is right. Actually retirements / resignations havent changed. However I think to get your numbers you cant just walk in. You need to call first. And the 4th hand rumor I heard was that people are calling non stop inquiring.

 Yeah I think people are confusing calling the pension section vs actually retiring. All this **** just happened so I can imagine people calling the pension section to inquire. Well have to wait a few months to see who actually went through with it.

 Beginning of the month is the worst time to retire. You should retire as close to the end of a month as possible.

 Well they know what you know. They visited the Pension section today but the retirements generally are effective at the end of the month. Some of the POs are brand new and just dipped

 34 total Sgts last week plus 9 for Monday is covering attrition numerals alone lol.

6/22 to 6/26 34 Sgts

6/28 9 Sgts

Keep tabs using these numbers. Add and substract from these moving forward.

Thank you for posting. By the time promotions resume, it should be more then 50 going to Bmoc. But only time will tell.

  if this pace keeps up itll be 20-35 sgts a week retiring resulting in hundreds of vacancies.. And yet this administration wont promote

Week of 6/22 to 6/26 = 34

6/29 = 9

6/30 = 9

7/1 = 7

7/1 = 8

From what I gather there will be just an ~1100 UMOS reduced headcount of total UMOS(allegedly), which is really just a 3% overall reduction.

This was the overall headcount as per FY2020 with exact figures as per the demographics report.

TOTAL TOTAL
All PO 23,784
All Detectives 5,399
All Sergeants 4,514
All Lieutenants 1,727
All Captains 351
Above Captain 419
Total 36,194

1100 reduction across the board will give the following adjusted reductions from the numbers above.

PO = 713 reduction
Det = 162 reduction
Sgt = 135 reduction
Lt = 52 reduction
Capt = 11 reduction
All above Capt = 12 reduction

But I did NOT see an adjusted headcount on the FY2021 NYPD Factsheet on the budget website, nor on the actual budget plan. Weird, but im sticking with the 3% theory as that is what we learned from media reports.

council.nyc.gov/budget/wp-content/uploads/sites/54/2020/05/FY21-NYPD-Exec-Dashboard-.pdf
council.nyc.gov/budget/wp-content/uploads/sites/54/2020/05/FY21-NYPD-Executive-Report-1.pdf

In conclusion, I believe as far as Sgt vacancies go, we are way over the 200 thresholds in vacancies, even most likely hitting the 250 mark. LT's are reaching 125ish vacancies once terminal numbers turn. Overall we may see over 500 TOTAL vacancies between Sgts and LTs before the end of this month. Those vacancies alone will comprise an additional 1.5% of UMOS gone, which will create a huge problem that the city nor department wants or needs (realistically). So I believe in the upcoming months we will see a surge in classes, but that is my hypothesis, and knowing this job, I may very well be wrong.

Keep your chins up boys and girls. Take whatever I wrote for what its worth with some light at the end of the tunnel for many.

Across the rank reduction  not just POs?

You will have to do across the rank reduction to correlate the rank structure, at least I would safely assume that. Reducing just the PO's would still mean you would need less supervisors. But I do think they will UP the detectives as most if not all 61's are just sent right upstairs for the Dets to catch later. That's my theory. Again, what I wrote it nothing set in stone, but mere assumptions with a way to see a positive light on an uneventful issue at hand that we are all dealing with.

 No he is saying we have already passed the attrition #s the job/citycouncil wants because too many people are retiring. this is good news

 Does your gut say promos fall 2020 or Jan/Feb 2021 as predicted

My gut says that management are realigning the units first on top, then working on a plan of action going forward, then they will worry about promotions.

I see a very big chance of promos before/around September in my opinion. There will for sure be an October class rookie PO class as we are reaching far below the marks with attrition across the board and we need to maximize the new headcount as that reduction was a major blow and the unanticipated mass exodus was not necessarily foreseen to be that large.

These daily numbers almost seem unreal ....

I mean ... at this pace how many will put in papers by end of the month ?

Wish we had the vacancies guy available still.

If they stop classes for a few months but start putting in classes of 80, it would make up for down months.

Lets lowball it and say even with the headcount drop AND attrition we only have 50 or so vacancies (probably not the case). With the recent numbers PLUS a few down months and a mass exodus we can easily still be seeing 150+ or even 200+ vacancies and im just being liberal as hell with these numbers.

Could actually be way more ....

With the number reduction plus vacancies, we are over 100(if not reaching 150ish) actual vacancies with no doubt in my mind(using TODAYS approx figures). That is JUST Sgts alone.

We have roughly 160 LT vacancies right now, a reduction of force would be technically 52 reductions from that number for a total available vacancy of ~110 LT spots.

As those LT classes go in we will be banking on more Sgt vacancies which will be exponentially even greater. So in essence this is not just a Sgt numbers game, this is a LT number game as well.

My understanding is Viper is nit going away. Viper rooms are going away. Instead of the unarmed cops being in some dinghy distant room away from the PSA, theyre are going to be doing the same job in the PSA. Viper existed bc we did not have access to the cameras. Now that we can view the cameras in DAS from the PSA they are going to move the cops there. I might be wrong. Thats what I heard.

Edit: wrong thread. Apologies. Wont let me delete
