It will takes years to undo what Capt.Insano and his henchman Lt.Ernie did to the job with their 2015 Lt exam. So force how does this affect us on the 2017 sgt exam? I'll tell you how...the sgt vacancies wont be a numerous as they were in the past because there isnt an active Lt list to promote off of. So until the LT list comes out the job will just have to rely on sgts retiring...but that doesnt equate to 60 a month. And another factor....25 is the new 20. Guys just arent leaving like that anymore.
I'm not too sure how much they'll promote monthly which is why I did the math.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see..
But you are right...even if you are at the bottom of the list its too early to start thinking about what ifs. You passed a NYPD promotional exam which in itself is a major accomplishment. Congrats!
It's all needs of the Deptartment...they can promote a few months straight, every other month or nothing for a few months. There's nothing set in stone. Class sizes can range anywhere from 40-75. I wouldn't focus on how many per month. The job usually promotes around 700 sgts a year. With that being said it's quite possible they make the whole list. What will help how fast they start moving through is the pending LT list and Capt list both of which are large lists...

09 Sgts exam, 781 names, first promotions were in November 10' last promotions were in March 12'.....as I said "ABOUT" 700 a year...guess I must live on mars...

You dont even have to go that far back, 2011 test was around 1600 people and it took about 3.5 years to finish it. Thats roughly like 450 a year.
