Have you seen the names on this list? There are a lot of people in places with a TON of down time.
And your point? Maybe you should learn to do your job a little better on patrol and the CO might give you a recommendation to go to a detail. Im just saying dont hate on the next man. Step your game up! And if your a Captain or above that is posting this...get a life! If you studied hard with integrity, then you deserve to pass regardless of where you work.

Relax I dont think that was his point. I think he was just saying there may be someone working on a list with seniority points added in. Not everything is a dig at someone. No need for all that sensitivity here. I think everyone is more concerned with getting promoted.

Thank you 92C. And calm down karate kid, no need to be a tough guy. I'm not knocking anyone who is in a detail. My point is there are people who have the time to calculate the seniority points, and good for them!
Everyone saying "well if this list is over x amount or y amount, I'd start worrying" needs to relax. This list is not abnormally large, the previous lists have been usually small. The problem is, it's been over a decade since the last time we saw a normal sized captains list, and everyone got conditioned into believing that a list of 80-120 was normal. The 2006 Captains exam had 250 names; all got made. Prior to that, captains exams were routinely 250+ names and all got made in 4 years or less. This captains exam was not a fluke or anomaly, it was exactly what the job wanted, an exam that would produce a list of 250 future captains. Why would the job want such a thing?, because they are anticipating that they need to replace over 200 captains in the next 4 years. The job was tired of having to write a captains exam almost annually, and wanted something that was similar to the way it used to be, and give them what they needed. Everyone is getting made, a captains list has never been cut short, and the job needs (or will need) everyone on that list.
Centurion...you are right that a Capt exam has never been cut but the reality is the demographics of the job has changed. Any basic analysis could tell you that. 25 is the new 20...so you cant compare 2017 to 2006. So this is uncharted territory. I think the job will try to promote everyone even if they have over promote Capts but dcas rules will remain the issue. Once the list comes out, the 4 year countdown clock starts. So it will be a race against time.
I have to disagree with you on this one. The job doesn't control how hard or easy a test will be. That's all on dcas and the exam writers.. Hence the crapy 2011,2015 Lt's test... I recall bratton saying himself on NY1 after the previous LT exam lawsuit that the exam writers are sworn to secrecy and as the police commissioner, even he doesn't have the legal authority to question or guide them on how the test is written... With that said i would speculate dcas started guiding exam writers to produce fair test to avoid the embarrassment of further lawsuits and extending a significant amount of resources to administrator these exams...

I dont know about that there arent many captains regardless of era walking out at 20
If this list was only 60 names it would be an immediate announcement of another exam and if that exam was only 60 names they would call for yet another test. Stop listening to the haters and especially people who are just commenting and are just sergeants on a yet to be released lieutenants list. All will be made.
A lot of waiting needs to be done. The only certainty right now is that there will not be another Lt or Capt exam for 4 years.
Fair statement. I will say about a 1/3 to 40 percent of each supervisory rank Seems to turn over every 4 years. There are over 750 captains and above on the job. Everyone will be made, itll just be a while. Unfortunately, if the number of passing LTs speculated is accurate then a lot will die on the list similar to 06.

Well said centurion. Probably one of the best post Ive read in this forum. Everyone needs to relax and be happy that they dont to have study for another promotional exam ever again.
Everyone will get made. Absolutely right centurion, those back to back lists of 63 made everyone think that is the norm. On a side note, I personally know 4 captains who are waiting until the contract hits the top step next year and will then retire. According to them, there are a lot of 25 year guys who are doing the same. Therefore, there will be a ton of retirements over the next couple of years.
