Heard from the CO of the S.A.B that they wouldnt be promoting Lt until till April or May. No clue where he got the info. He stated Pcts were short Lt and thats why they want people to have 10 months in rank before even accepting paperwork.

Supervisory Assignment Board. Prior to last month you were able to put Your application in with six months in rank. Now they want 10 months in rank before even accepting application. The co said the changes were made because lack of Lt in Pct and lack of an active list For Sgts and Lts. He said first class of Lt would be April or May.

Besides, if your significant other works, you will be hoisted into another tax bracket.... Another thing to think about.  More taxes.

Or you can lower your taxable income by increasing your defer comp contribution (37k total for 2018) therefore keeping you in the same tax bracket.

Are you suggesting the 401k pretax or Roth? Also, which is better, the 401k Roth or 457 roth

457 Roth or pre tax is always better than 401k. Ultimately, they are almost the same thing with the main difference being  the 401k you can't touch until 59 unless you want to pay a penalty. With the 457 you can touch as soon as you retire without penalty.

Pretty much on point.  But some would argue that the ability to reduce your taxable income with pretax 457 and 401k and invest simultaneously, especially since we are so highly taxed, can save thousands in taxes every year dependant on how much you're putting in, and this makes it comparable to the ITHP/50%.

They're all great and play a different role as an asset in your working years and planned retirement.

Would have to disagree.  Ithp/50 is a guaranteed 8.25% return on your money compared to the volatility of the market.  Nevertheless, 457 and 401 are good buckets to continue retirement savings.

Late march?! Try more like may or even june! I know it sounds crazy but dcas hasnt even reached out to the fit unit to add those points. Once they do we will get a clearer picture as to when the list will be established. Looks like the 10-month wait for the sgt exam will be the same for us. 10 months is the new 6 months.

Heard the same from a pretty reliable source. List next month. Makes sense, in line with 6 months post test. I know DCAS doesn't care but at the same time we are closing in on 5-6 months with no active LT list and vacancies gradually increasing. I just can't see a later release date then next month...March WORST case. I would say a March LT class is realistic.

If the LT list is half the size of the Sgts list, im curious to see the jobs approach in the next four years and how these promos will pan out. Dieing on a list would be depressing lol.

The 2006 list was approx 1300 people. So if our list is the same size, you can look at the 2006 list to figure out where you probably will end up on this list.

At what point did they cut this list? Did it even reach 800?

It was a different job back in 06. The economy wasnt doing well so they werent hiring as much. Now the job has a lot more units to move supervisors into. You cant compare the 06 list to this future list. IMO they go through the whole list.

I believe anything under a 78 was cut from the 06 list.

The 2006 Lt List was cut at number 755.  I don't know what the score was

Very true. It was very much a different time. Still, though, the key to look it is average promotion per year. That's the real indicator. Consistently, over the last decade or so, it's been +/- 200 a year. If rumors of the list size are true, that would mean nearly double would need to get made over the 4 years to exhaust the list. Who knows. Maybe the job will add a few thousand cops meaning more supervision will be needed. Maybe they'll increase the amount of LT's the job needs because of new initiatives. Maybe there'll be a massive exodus of LT's (to be fair, it's unlikely. It's become a young rank over the last few years. But the rumored 200+ Captain list may work in our favor). Who knows.

But, I will say that IF history is any indicator and we use it as a gauge, it will be tough to estimate that the entire will get made. To what number? Who knows. As tough to stomach as it may be for some, it looks like some real luck and timing will be needed for those over 1k to make it. Hope I'm wrong, as I know how hard most people worked for this (this was my second one after the 2015 debacle), but you can't fight history and the numbers. Anyone who says "yes" or "no" as to everyone getting promoted is blowing smoke...there's no way to estimate that. By the time the list is near the end, a new Mayor and probably PC will be in power...so yeah, anything can happen that deviates from the norm.

And exactly how would education tracking start getting credits in line if they dont even know who is on the list?! Ladies and gentleman..see this is how fake news starts. If the list was going to come out by next month both ed tracking and the fit unit would have reviewed/worked on it....both of which is not the case. From that point you would have to wait another month or so for dcas to review it before they officially release it to the dept. Believe me feb would be nice but not happening! More realistic is apr/may. And vacancies still havent shot through the roof...25 is the new 20.

And as much as I hate to say 63asap is right. At this point in the game is becoming clear that a 1,000plus Lt list will probably get cut. What will be the cutoff score?....who knows. All i know is that a lot of military guys are using their Veteran credits. Sucks for me but good for them...they put their foot to ass for this country. And after capt. Insano's 2015 exam they deserve this more than anyone.

 confuse

Um

....

Could it be that education tracking unit meant that they have already reviewed the list and submitted it and it should be released next month since they are done with it??? Maybe the poster misunderstood.

List will be out next month

Just my opinion... but I don't think this list will mirror the 2006 list. It may have a similar number of passers), but I think this list will have more people in the upper 90's. On the 2006 list, there were only about a hundred people above 90.

Cappped,

What does that have to do with the number of people that will be promoted of this list.  I don't see the relation. Please explain...
