"The key" once again pretends to have inside info and is completely full of it. They posted a message to their Facebook page two days ago saying that a finest message for an October captains test was officially out! Does anyone remember the "wink wink" "little birdie" from the 2015 LT. course? What is wrong with these clowns? Anyone who takes their course or trusts them is foolish. Maybe it's just me though... thoughts? Anyone?
I've used the key twice successfully, although I'm leaning toward Elite this time. I don't like the fact that all the schools are trying to give us a Lts course with an additional 8-12 week cram at the end and call it a captains course.

All schools are in the business to help people succeed and of course making money comes with the territory.

This is huge!! Now let's see if Elite will distribute WEEKLY packets containing captain's duties and procedures. In additional provide weekly ONLINE Videos explaining such captains procedures.
Lol! So now they're doing damage control. I can just imagine the quality of these "nuisance" packets. They should have done this in the beggining. Instead they showed their true intentions by trying to fleece us. It wasn't until after we all complained that they decided yeah, we'll throw this in too to shut you up.

I honestly have no skin in this game anymore, I passed all the tests including Captain with very good scores. I used the Key classes for both the Lt and Capt test ALONG with the Rising Star material through the mail (they weren't doing live classes yet) and found that worked for me. I have nothing bad to say about either school, I really think all the schools are pretty even, you just have to go to one of them, its hard to do it on your own or strictly through the home courses. Just my advice, good luck all.

DCAS did announce a captain's test. They aren't wrong.
A birdie flew by and told them just like the 4 CIMS questions guaranteed to be on the 2015 LT exam that weren't there. The only solid info I've seen is the May filing date on the DCAS website.... they also deleted their original post that said a "finest message came out" which did not occur at all.

The Key needs to add a Brooklyn location. This is an exam for the New York City Police Department and you're going to have the only location be out on Long Island?
They key stepped up its game. Stop complaining about where the class is going to be. Stop being cheap and buy the mailing option for an Xtra $150 and watch the class online. That comes out to 1.5 hours of overtime!
My own personal opinion.... Take RS for the essential guide and the 6 month structure, then Yanos 8 to 12 week course if you feel you need it. You get the best of both worlds. You get structure, and a live captain class if needed.
I think for a capt course 1 class should be suffice if you are motivated. RS offers the most bang for your buck and their course looks great thus far. However I agree with Bigfoot if you feel you need the extra support you can always take elite towards the end.
Yes, the Key definitely needs a city location. If I'm paying, I want to be able to attend the classes. They'll lose a lot of business by just having a Long Island class.

I'm going with the key (as in 2 previous tests). There are the only ones who have live class dedicated for captains. Location of the class is a bit far from me, but I'll be watching video's online.

they have live classes,,,, but they read off the packet... I don't think it makes a difference that they have live classes

Yes they stepped up their game by handing out loose leaf law patrol guides to people taking the LT class that are updated to July 2016. The Key will soon go the way of Fast track.
Gdassclub is Ralph C from the Key. He's not a bad guy but it's obviously him.
x2 on the severely outdated patrol guide the key is handing out. They should really stick to the one price model. All these up sells are really turning people off. $695 for the capt class. Want a patrol guide? $740. Need that mailed? $840. Want the app? That'll cost you even more...they want to squeeze out over 1k by the time they're done with you.
The mini PG that the Key provides comes directly from the company who makes it, Looseleaf Law. That company updates the guide twice a year; it's been that way for the last 12 years. And as far as the app goes, Fineology makes the app for the Key and the downloads come directly from the Google Play store and the Apple store. My opinion, you don't want it, don't buy it.
Not a captains student here (I'm studying for lieutenants) so hopefully I'm not out of line... but why does the Key charge so much money for what seems to be very little? If you do study at home they treat you like a second class citizen. Like you're bothering them or something. Rising Star mails it out no problem with no extra charge. Makes me curious to know what the schools overhead is
It's for lieutenant, but we will be doing the same thing for Captain. Our lessons are word-for-word from the actual Patrol Guide, just edited to give you what you need. We do this to give you confidence in what you are studying--you knowing that what is in front of you is word-for-word the patrol guide and not someone's interpretation of what they think it says. Our take on the PG are in "takeaway" boxes at the bottom of the procedure or notes right after the steps.
The material is designed to go along with our questions. Our questions need no introduction--Tony and I take pride in the fact that YOU all think it is the best out there. They have only gotten better.
Now that I'm retired we are ready to take Rising Star to the next level: we are overhauled our curriculum, honed our instruction skills, researched the best method to ensure maximum retention, and much more. Our only regret is that as Captain students this is the last time you will be studying with us; but if you are happy with our material please spread the word and let others know.

The other schools are building mailing costs in for students who don't have it mailed out. Don't think the other schools are mailing it out from the kindness of their hearts.

Rising Star is able to do it cheaper because EZE has a bunch of Filipinos chained to his basement stuffing envelopes! lol

I personally don't care but my counterparts are assuming they are getting an up to date patrol guide until the look at it. The essential guide is great as is the Elite guide. For the money they charge and for what their competition presents they can't and clearly don't want to keep up. They are charging an exorbitant amount of money and for that you should get more as a student.
The key students don't need to read any type of "guide" to pass a promotional. That's why the key doesn't provide there students with the patrol guide. There "key" to passing a promotional is the packets.

Lol! I haven't heard a single good word about the key from the sergeants who took the last lieutenants test. the Key had a near 100% failure rate. Lol. Something about a little birdie that was wayyyy of the mark. Lol
Every school had nearly 100% failure rate. Remember only 164 passed out of 2500. The key packets had everything in it to pass the 15 Lt. Exam. The reason for the failure rate is test taking ability. The school's can't teach that. Either you have the ability or you don't.

Ralph, I have no problem with you and the other key instructors but you guys really messed up the last lieutenants test. Take it from us. The other schools, rising star especially, had a high pass rate. In my command 4 out 6 people who passed were rising star students after the list came out. I can't say the same for the key students. Elite had the other 2 out of 6.
And as far as your assertion that schools can't teach test taking abilities you are 100% WRONG. For an instructor that's a real shame.

Ralph, I just did a Google search and there are tons of studies that shows that you certainly can teach test taking abilities. It would serve your school well if you and your fellow instructors did some research so you can do better for students (what little you have left)
Holy sh1t. shots fired!!!! lol
Ralph cilento from the key shilling his schools and gets taken down by a disgruntled student! lol this is gonna get good.

I wasn't trying to start anything. lol. If you look at my posts I was initially trying to be supportive but the money grab just got annoying. $850 for study at home plus more for the app and you know they'll come up with more crap to sell at the end. On top of that they distributed severely outdated patrol guides. Then they have the nerve to say you don't need to read the patrol guide! wtf? and then the statements of "this time the exam will be a ground ball" Really? Stop pretending like you know what's on this test.
And then they send ralph C. on this board to plug the key. Isn't he still a lieutenant? I mean...enough already. Stop trolling the boards and focus on your students

I'm not Ralph! I'm a key student that passed 2 test. Nobody studies the same way. I take short cuts and just read the key packets and I passed 2 test. I know plenty of people that used this technique and it worked! Other students need 2 classes, read the PG 6 times, and take 5 weeks off before the exam. Whatever works for you is the right way. But you can't deny the fact the key program got a lot of mos promoted.

lol! yeah, ok Ralph. We all know it's you. lol I'm done here. I really have better things to do. I really hope people do sign up for the key. At least those are people I wouldn't have to worry about.
that's not Mike C........at least know who you're calling out by name.
Ok guy.. just like Ralphie C ......Sgt2be=2015Ltexam=2015ltTest=Mike C.....And you should worry about yourself dog and let him deny just like Ralphie denied .

Those of you who received an email stating the key had to move the class to Tuesday night, not to worry about scheduling conflicts they are adding a Sunday class. Good luck to alll
Hopefully their super expensive class isn't filled with instructor's lies and ancient non updated packets... I heard they hook you up with a top of the line January 2016 looseleaf law PG!
