that would be great if you could post the answer key on here after attending, and also maybe fill us in on which 30 questions were the so called "research" questions
Perhaps we should all work something out if there are no devices allowed. For example, you memorize answers 1-3, john is responsible for 4-6, mike remembers 7-9, etc.
will we be able to keep out green paper after the protest session? if thats the case I'm just going to write their proposed answer key on that green paper like the letters next to the number, can i do this?
Thought of something that might be relevant to the probability of this test. I know it's impossible to say for a fact, but, I think it's highly unlikely that any portion of the inbasket was experimental. Of course, there's no way to be 100% sure. Any opinions?
I honestly don't know what to think anymore. This problem would have been resolved if they would had given more time. But who I'm to say what they should do. i didn't get to finish the last 18 questions and that's the difference for me to fail or pass. But it is what it is. I know I study really hard. And wasn't expecting 30 extra. But best of luck to whoever finished the exam. This was my last try at it.

Even though the questions were "scattered" throughout the test, it really seems highly likely, in my opinion, that the majority of research questions were in the last 30. The tone of the test completely changed in most of those last 30 questions.
Besides that, Lieutenant Gamblor any update coming soon : )

I think that tone change is more pychological than anything else. Each question you read came with a hint of, "WHY THE FLIP AM I STILL SITTING HERE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"
Thanks all for the well wishes. I do have a few more keys to add, but I doubt it will change the calculations much, if at all. I will probably put out an update either tomorrow or Tuesday.

Ok, point being, it now goes from 30 of 130 being thrown out to 30 of 114. Changes the odds a touch.
Everyday i woke up this test pissing me off. I spent 6 months killing my self studying hard, when I got to question 95 I had 10mn left, when I'm finally get to question 100 and I see 30 more question I said what the f...ck and everyone looking at me Like I'm crazy and the bell rang. If I fail this test all I want from Dcas is my money I paid for the course and the fee for the sgt test also $ 37 per hours cause I spent 4 hours per day.
jb60loan i feel your pain. Next time i guess do the in basket last. I feel your pain because I also go through the exam slowly and do not rush and usually do the in basket first. I am sure i would be in the same boat as you if was taking your exam. The only thing to do is next time do the in basket last, since u know it has less questions.

from the people that i know that took the inbasket last didnt finish... the once that did the inbasket first for the most part were able to finish... again this is just my friends that took the test.. me included, i did the inbasket first.. thats not to say i didnt rush my ass of and def missed some stupid simple mistakes, but hey, im wishing for the best...
I'm really baffled. I don't understand how soo many people couldnt finish this test 6 hours is more than enough time to answer 130 questions. Especially if you studied your ass off the answers should jump right out. if you took like 10 mins for each question Then that's poor time managemen.

go through the forum and you will clearly read that some of us are not fast readers...
Crap, your situation is exactly what happened to me. I also appear to have 5 wrong on the in-basket and then 10 wrong on the rest of the test. At the end of the day we finished the entire test and that hopefully gives us an added chance of passing.

I am talking to those who keep saying that the last 30 "DO NOT COUNT". The NOE did stated that additional questions will be added to the test and the front of the test package clearly stated that additional questions will be spread through out the test and you "SHOULD" answer all questions"...if you left, after Just 100 questions with time on the books don't cry because you were warned and you are a grown up and "SHOULD know better"..and if you did not bothered to see what they were asking in the last 30 questions than shame on you. All 30 extra questions were PG relevant questions not "Research" questions...I did take a bathroom break and I finished the entire test with 2 minutes to spare and I am a slow reader. It's a shame what DCAS did as many did not have time to finish. The Time allotted "SHOULD" be the argument not whether the first, middle or last 30 counted....This was all a sneaky way of DCAS diluting the promotional list. They gambled with people lack of concentration, " Hair-bag" attitudes, and "lucky Saturday aficionados" at the cost of legit test takers and by the looks of it DCAS Won.
I'm one the guys that did the in-basket last. It actually helped me because I didn't read the instructions first. While everyone was busy reading the instructions, I was busy jotting down all the acronyms from the key down on the the scrap paper. I ended up only using 1 of the acronyms, "HARBOR".
I usually go slow on the in-basket so I decided that I needed to allot more time. I thought that 3 hrs for the in-basket was sufficient so I made sure I went through the questions quickly but when I got up to question 90, I realized that there were 30 more questions and I realized that I had to use another hour to finish the questions leaving me about 2 hrs for the in-basket. I finished the in-basket with literally 5 minutes to spare.
Now I did rush through the in-basket and it apparently shows since Gamblor's excel worksheet states that I have 5 wrong on it. But I'm glad I did the in-basket last because I ended up at least finishing the test even though I couldn't go back for review.
Spoke to deputy director of test at dcas. She stated that the the purpose of the extra questions have many reasons but one of the main reasons was to see that if a group of sample questions given statistically match the the same amount of right and wrong answers when compared to the regular test questions. If they do in the future they will give people taking the test at a later time a different test. She also stated that dcas felt that 6 hours was plenty of time to do 130 questions . Dcas also by stated that by law doesn't have to tell us how many test questions they're giving or even how much time we have to complete the test until the time of the test. She also said those 30 questions were preselected before the test and are spread throughout the test. It will not be the last 30 questions. She said as an example on the next sergeant test there may be only 100 questions but they could decide to make it only 4hours and 30 minutes to complete but won't tell us until we sit down with the test.
Then would they refund the $$ if we refuse to take the test? not like they giving out free exams. we should a least know what we paying for ^^.

Nay, you knew what you paid for, stop crying about it. You paid for a test and got one that was more like a pop quiz. Remember this job owes you nothing and always covers itself as it did with the updated NOE 2 weeks before the test was given... Here I'll pass you some Kleenex...

This job need people exactly like you. and sorry i don't know what i paid for anymore, i thought i knew when i sign up for it, but now apparently i didn't. and i am not sure if anyone of us knew what we paid for but " just suck it up" right? as always.
We should know what we're paying for. We can get city counsel members to change the law telling dcas they have to tell us how many questions will be on the test when they announce it. the lady I spoke to says adding 30 questions on the test won't effect my score on the test because those 30 don't count . But I told her of course they count because I spent my time answering those questions that don't count and didn't have time to answer the questions that do count. Then she says well dcas can give you any number of questions and we don't have to tell you Until the time of the exam. I then say since the research questions are designed to be no harder or easier then the regular test questions your going to have a couple hundred people who get promoted who only got let's say 68% of the questions right put he gets lucky and you throw out the questions he got wrong and there will be a couple hundred people who have 70-73 % of the questions right and fail because slightly more questions he got right get thrown out. I tell her statistically speaking there should be 100-200 people that get promoted that actually get less questions right then the person who fails. She says she doesn't see how that's going to happen. This was a person who doesn't understand math. you have a bunch of people working in dcas that have degrees in public administration and not math.
Yep there's the spirit NaY... if you studied hard enough I'm sure you did well and don't have to worry a thing about the extra dreaded 30 questions and/or talk to make believe DCAS people to help you sleep better at night like Jaribu has been doing...

Deputy director of test. Spoke to one person then another women that couldn't answer my questions then I said please can you put me on the phone with someone that could help me and answer some questions. She puts me on hold for 2 minutes then the director came on the phone
Of course you can lose points if they throw out answers. Some will gain and some will lose but on the average you should end up with a score that is equal to the overall percentage you got right. So if you got 92 questions right out of 130 that's roughly 72% of the questions right. If they throw out 30 questions about 50% of those people will get a 72. 25% of those people with 92 questions right should get a 70-71 or a score of 73-74. About 10% of people who got 92 right will get a 68-69 and 10% will get 75-76 questions right. So some people will fail when then deserve to pass and some will pass when they deserve to fail.

You have absolutely no idea how statistics work. You completely pulled all this garbage out of your a$$.
for the most part. I know im way off on the odds. spat that out in 2 seconds. so out of 92 right whats the discrete interval breakdown. I know I have a 100% chance of getting between 62 and 92 on the test. after that I get a little rusty. I still have a chance of failing, but will most likely end up with a 72.
