They'll probably do what they did with the last Capt exam..........last time they had a raw pass of 64 and by the time they threw stuff out they had a list of 128
I doubt they'll throwout 15 questions just to double the size of the list like the 2010 exam. From what I heard the exam was difficult but straightforward.
I can't see the list doubling, when many have said there aren't that many questions to challenge. No where near the 15 from the last exam. Brat, from your own take on the test, you've said that there wont be many protestable questions.
It has nothing to do with what the job or dcas want. I don't know how many times this point has to be reitterated. The only determining factor as to the # of throwouts is the 3 people on that review panel.
If only 63 passed DCAS has to put out a list of 63. Notice of exam stated 70% or better to pass, they can't change the passing score now. It is civil service law.
If next test is in 2014 which is about right then TVB will be under some pressure to throw more out than expected to produce a larger list. Many people I know studied hard barely passed and most were in low 60s. Something was up with this test.
Not necessarily, there are approximately 61 left on the current list and with the 63 from 2012 exam thats approximately more than 2 years of promotions. They have enough candidates just as is without considering throwouts.
Again....TVB doesn't get pressured by anyone. You have almost no contact with anyone on this job. If they vote to only toss out 2 questions, then that is what will be thrown out. U really think at some point, someone in some position of authority, is going to walk into the room and say, "guys, toss out 4 more. We need to get more than a 125 people on the list." You really believe that? Really? Really??? Come on...u can't be that naive. I'm telling you with 100% certainty...it does not work that way. Period. End of story.

I agree. There is no rush to put out another exam or even think about another exam. That 63 will grow a bit and with the 61 left on this snail pace list, no other test needed right now.
Wow...that's a tough question. I don't know if I answer that. I would say that the majority of issues revolve around losing the CASH overtime when you make the jump, and the schedule regarding RDO's, working different tours during the week, not being able to get day off, etc. And then there's always the people who have families who are going to lose time with their loved ones. With all that being said, I can't see the job giving Captains cash O/T, the schedule is the schedule, you just have to make it work for you as best you can...and as far as not seeing your family, I don't really think the job gives a damn...lol. By the way, I haven't even touched on any of the COMPSTAT stresses that these guys go through.
I guess to try and answer your question, I would say start giving Captains cash overtime (on some level) would prob be the biggest motivator...maybe getting a take home car if you make the rank of Captain (that would be a nice perk). We all know COMPSTAT isn't going away so I won't even go there...lol. The bottom line is...no one wants to lose money (again, that is not my situation) to begin working crazy schedules and get beat downs at COMPSTAT, TRAFFICSTAT, and every other stat. If I wind up passing on the 18th when the answers come out, I am all in, knowing full well what I am getting into. I've thought about it, and for me it's where I'd like to be.
I hear you on that. It sad that despite all the options you've mentioned the department has chosen to mess around with the Lt rank instead. Either way they need to do something to entice people to take the rank unless they're satisfied giving a Captain exam every 2 years. Anyhow, good luck on the 18th.
Personally it's a Captain's schedule that is the biggest turn off. In my opinion, as you move up and become an executive, your work schedule should get better; not worst. I do not mind Compstat or the no cash overtime (thanks to pension), but not seeing your family and not being able to take off after all your hard work is not appealing at all.
