From 1PP Testing Unit--was surprised by this

i was in this office other day harassing them like others have and was kinda surprised to hear their expecting a a full list but they expect people to die on this list b/c of the high pass rate.  they said the pc wants a sgt exam every year but max is 2 yrs--app he wants highest frm all lists. not tryin to start anything all--i was talking to the sgt there and thats what he told me b/c he asked me what i thought i got.he said hopefully we hire more cops and more guys off this list will b made. he thinks another will b given fall 2013--anyway-nothing in stone. i thought this was crazy.

I know didn't mean to start anything b/c all of this is hearsay. I thought it was nonsense but this guy seemed to say that's the way their leaning w this test. And yes---he said around 4500 took it--that 9k stuff is false. there are still 114 guys who were on military leave who r takin makeup in jan and feb of 12. He said usually A LOT of them pass--so he was saying this list will be very very big. So I too was like crap--im just waiting till I see the list in the chief--end of story.

Great making for a lawsuit. Exams are good for 4 years. He needs to hire everyone off the 2009 exam before he can hire off the 2011 exam. If he wants to hire the best of the best then make the minimum passing score higher. The list can die just like the 2006 LT exam will but he can't just skip passing people and start using another exam because those people scored higher. Tell that sgt to look into civil service law regarding examinations. Are you sure that sergeants name wasn't jimbo?

Stop posting nonsense. Even if 15 people passed in all the commands, Psas, tds and details ur still looking at 1500 which means everyone gets promoted and there is no such thing as a cut off with a 70 passing score. The Lt list has been going strong for almost 6 yrs and sgts get hired alot quicker than Lts

Boy, this thread is a fountain of misinformation. First off, in regards to that sgt. telling you that the p.c. wants to hire the top people and give a new test every couple years, that started two exams ago. So few people passed the last couple of exams that it his new policy went un-noticed. Second, as per civil service law, the p.c. only has to keep a list active for a minimum of 1 year. He does NOT have to go beyond that if he doesn't want to. Third, the current LT's list has not been going for 6 years. It was established in April of 2008. That is when the clock started to tick. Absent of extigent circumstances, a list cannot go beyond 4 years. All you guys are pulling crap from your azz without knowing what the hell you're talking about. This is why people have been saying that if this list is big enough, people will get cut. Getting an 80 or making a list does NOT guarantee you a promotion. If you got an 81 on the 2003 LT's exam, you never even got on a list. The bottom line is, the p.c. will fill vacancies as they arise but will give another exam in 2 years and whoever doesn't make it by then, will not get promoted.

A list is legally active for a minimum of 4 years. Enough with the non sense. Nobody's dying on it. The Sergeant in 1pp knows nothing more than the SGT on the desk at the 75. The PC doesn't talk to them any more than any other MOS, and he definitely does not tell them his plans on promotions. You guys are actually starting to sound ridiculous.

Read the civil service law regarding promotional lists right here, page 9 of the document.

http://www.cs.ny.gov/pio/publications/summofcsl.pdf

Eligible Lists
Duration
The Civil Service Law provides that the duration of an eligible list shall be not less
than one year or more than four years. If a list has been in existence for one year or
more, it shall terminate upon the establishment of an appropriate new list unless the
old list is extended by action of the Department of Civil Service. Additionally,
should a financial emergency restrict the filling of vacancies, the Department of
Civil Service may, in its discretion, extend the duration of the list for a period
equivalent to the length of the restriction. Once a list expires, it cannot be revived,
nor can an individual whose name was on the expired list receive an appointment on
that basis.

NOT LESS THAN 1 YEAR OR MORE THAN 4 YEARS.....MEANING THE P.C. AND DCAS HAS THE DISCRETION BETWEEN 1 AND 4 YEARS TO TERMINATE THE CURRENT LIST AND GIVE A NEW TEST AND ESTABLISH A NEW LIST!!!

Before you rookies shoot your mouth off next time, know what the hell you're talking about. So Semp1, find me some NY law that states a promotional list must stay active for at least 4 years. MORONS!

Margaret. I never said anything to you. And I'm far from a rookie. So please don't come at me. I really do not feel like getting into it with you. I've always known that but it can also be out for over 4 years it doesn't necessarily need to be expired or cut. It will never be cut short of 4 years. It has nothing to do with whether they can. The PC just doesn't do that. That more applies to a civil service entrance exam like what happened with the FD tests
