How did you guys/gals fared out ? A few of my buddies passed and others came in close. Lots of upper 50s. Score only please. DO NOT discuss the exam on here! Thank you!
A curve is not for cheating, its to ensure they have an appropriate list. They need enough people passing to ensure they have people to promote, if not they will have give a test sooner. I am pretty sure they will have over 300 or so that passed so they probably wont have to make any major adjustments.
Curve started when they started giving different versions of test. To make up for the differences in difficulty, you get usually around 0.239 per wrong answer iirc.
Exam will be curved after throw outs but the curve amount depends on how many people actually passed raw. I would assume its around 200 raw then expect a smaller curve. 5-10 Captains get promoted per month is about 300-400 after 4 years give or take. That is more than sufficient for the Department so realistically to double a list u would really only need to curve from say 65 and up. Curve is done to prevent lawsuits and that will continue regardless of session amount.

What is an average amount of throw out or double answer?
Its varied the last few exams. And again its really based on how big of a list they want that combined with the curve so there really is no clear answer. For context Last Captains test there were people who I personally know scored a 60 and ended up passing after the curve & throw outs. On the previous SGT Exam there were cops I knew that scored a 56 and ended up passing.
2nd try at this exam was a charm. Scored an 84 which seems to be very high compared to what I'm seeing here. To be honest, I'm in a gig and had study time. Big thanks to the Key and huge kudos to Rising Star and their new LMS. I knew RS questions were challenging and real close to what I'd see, but the feedback the system gave me had me laser focused on where I was weak. Good luck to everyone! Hopefully theres a lot of toss outs for those who are close.
Just some foresight and optimism for all of you that failed with a 60+.
The exam in 2022 had about 130 people that originally passed the exam. That exam was curved tremendously and they somehow established a list of 489 people. I believe over 700 people took the exam. DCAS will curve this exam and establish a list to their liking, so expect a decent sized list once again.

That is correct. This exam depending on how many pass Raw which i would assume is anywhere from 100-150 there will be a similar curve depending on how many Captains the job believes they need.
Only thing i disagree with Is I think the curve may not be as large I think its may cut off at around 65. Just a guess on my part though

Anyone foiled DCAS to see actual passer? Is that even a thing?
A FOIL Request would reveal that however processing a request can take several months to actually be completed the NYPD only has 1 Unit that handles that.
DCAS gets you the information fast if they have it. I emailed dcas foil requests about two months before the exam to see how many signed up and they responded within two days. It was 695 like two months before the exam by the way.
From another thread about a previous test on curves. Attached was a photo of a scale too but it doesnt attach. The claim is that tests were curved because of multiple exams. I dont know if true or not but this test was 1 test 1 session.
From a previous exam thread
The scaling fits in with the score I received this morning in the email.

Thanks to our sources we have some answers in regard to your sergeant exam.
It seems that DCAS decided to scale your exam. Scaling is done whenever there are exams with multiple versions; it allows for fairness whenever one version is deemed harder or easier than a comparison exam. In your case the test was scaled up.
Each question you got right was worth 1 point, however, for each question you got wrong you were only deducted .769 points. Attached you'll find a formula showing what your raw score was (pre-scaling) and what your final score should be (prior to adding points/medals)
For those of you who remember what your raw score was pls IM me to confirm this further.

I had heard something different. From what I was told back during the 2022 Exam the scaling was done by applying .231 for every wrong answer you had and the cut-off depended. For the SGT Exam it was curved from a 61 and up. For the LT exam it was for a 64 and up. As far as the reasoning I heard something different the what Ed wrote But Ed would know more in depth than I would so I would assume he would have more insight on this test as well. If there is no curve and the list only has throw outs then expect a smaller list and another exam given faster.
I was of the original thinking that it was due to multiple versions of test but looking back, I took the 2017 Sgt exam and it was given in one session and we still had a curve applied of 0.231. So at this point, it would be safe to say this exam will be curved considering the general consensus is that many didnt pass.
What was the cutoff score for the last captain exam ? seems like different test have different cutoffs.
That I do not know but I know it was very low possibly a 61 like the SGT Exam. I know some people that had 58-62 Raw and ended up on the list, But that could also be due to throw outs mixed with the curve.
