Realistically What Number Will They Get To?

These are the numbers I calculated for the Sgt's list should help you figure out your probability.

Its really going to boil down to how many people retire. Its impossible to figure out until after FIFA. Mid to end of July is the mass exodus of the 2006 class. I work in a unit where theres not much turnover and there are 3 Lts leaving as of the next few weeks . Those are 3 Lts that need to be replaced by 3 Sgts. That will be the formula going forward. Once the dust settles we will figure things out. Please everyone do not lose hope. Have a little faith.

Depending on the NYPD picking up the promotions in coming months , you may see the list move a little quicker . Mark my words, the outgoing class of 2006 will rapidly deplete the upper executive population and force the NYPD to start hiring more cops that need supervision and all will be well .

How accurate are the force figures on the intranet? According to those numbers, Sgt is steadily declining and has been even with the monthly promotions. According to that there are also about 900 Sgts eligible to retire. But when I look at all the figures something seems wrong. It also says PO numbers at up.

A lot of these numbers will change due to 1) Those on terminal , 2) Those who are not concerned with overtime and have a ton of chart time built up. Again we are going to see alot of bosses leave after summer. once FIFA done and after US Open , I have a feeling overtime will dwindle forcing alot of people to 1PP. If those 900 bosses are in fact retiring , they are forcing the NYPDs hand. A lot of Pcts will ask for bosses to fill the void but 1PP notorious for saying Make do with what you have , thus almost all Pcts working under staffed and over worked.

I just looked and 125 Sgts and 60 Lts are on Terminal .

100 Sgts in July is huge lets hope we keep seeing some sizable classes hopefully well at least get to the 2900-3200 range

Theres rumors going around that the test is being pushed for April 2027 but the list expires in May 2027 is it possible that they continue to promote this current list until the next list is established and do you think theyll get to the mid 3,400 list numbers trying to see if thats realistic

I was talking about this in one of month discussions . Typically , the list we are on wont be cut until a new list is created. There are rumors theres a test being given in Feb , some say now its April . Based on our test , it took 9 months for them to create a new list. Once thats created , they will squash old list and start taking names off the new list that was created .
For example : Test is given February 27. New list will come out in October 27. Technically , our list expires May 27 because that is when they started hiring in 2023. Since the test given in February, look for NYPD to draw names off our list until October 27 when a new list will come out. Make sense ?

Filing begins January 6, 2027 DCAS just posted so the test is definitely pushed back do you have an idea when the test will be administered and thats better to pump out more classes on the current list

Wow knowing now that its officially pushed back this is great news for us in the higher list numbers

I have nothing to back this up , but between all the people retiring , the fact the next Sgt test will be pushed back will give us a little bit of a reprieve. Add in that they are hiring large BMOC classes. If we are at 2528 right now and lets say test is given in April, the new list should come out in January 28.
That means they will continue to hire from our test till Jan 28. At 75 per BMOC classes thats between 3600-3700. Thats not discounting resignations , deferrals , retirements , and people who are premoted early . Look for them to get into higher 3000s. Ive also been hearing that this list will be exhausted by the time they give new test and create new list. Keep the faith my brothers and sisters , your time will eventually come !

A sergeant i just spoke to said they will.continue to promote especially due to the fact they delayed the test they will still promote hang in there!

Thats the exact reason why this Sgt test was pushed back and had over 12,000 applicants and over 4,000 that passed.

Lots of variables but with the filling pushed back to January. I say exam will be in June 2027 with a list released by early January 2028. I dont see this department releasing an exam 3 months from the filling date.

Just to shed some light to the end of your tunnel. I'm currently in the last sgt Bmoc. Me and a coworker spoke to a Sgt Delegate and they stated the SBA is 100% going through the whole list. They came to a secret squirrel agreement and say that the whole list is getting made. With the test getting pushed back and it currently takes 6-8 months to make a new list. I have faith that everybody will be wearing those chevron. Just an update aswell, we no longer start as step 4 transitioning from po to SGT unless you're a top pay Det. So base pay right now is 114k for step 1. Hope this helps

Sad fact is that we wont really be making much more than POs. And top pay detective 3rd grades will be making more than us
