So, if the SBA reaches a deal with the city, would we receive retro pay if say some sgts were not at top pay and were out earned by cops at any point since 2017?
I was actually told by someone in SBA today on this exact issue that supposedly as of now that retro will only be based on the percentages that are being given for ur time as a SGT that you were out of contract. So for instance if we get 3% from 2021 and 3.5% for 2022 etc you would receive retro for whatever ur SGT salary was in those years plus those numbers, however the PBA making more than SBA members is not going to be fixed as of now, I was hoping all new SGT would also be adjusted to make more than PBA members current top pay but as of the last meeting in May the only raises and retro being given out will be based on the new % from the contract from 2021 or 2022 not sure exactly which one till now. For anyone to get retro or a pay adjustment for any other issue, it seems like you would need to sue because the City and the Union will not fix it otherwise.

What kind of numbers are we talking for each step here?

I was told similar to what the PBA got I don't know exact numbers. We are out of Contract since December 9 2021, I believe so I could maybe see 2022 and 2023 being a 3.5 and 4 possibly to help new SGT catch up somewhat to PBA top pay, but thats just a guess on my part. But I do know the pay disparity has been a big part of the negotiations along with 12 Hour Tours and Chart Time. So The union may appease new Bosses by getting us a big bump through the first 2 years but again just a guess on my part.
How reliable is that chart? Wouldnt a cop getting promoted after July 21, 2023 go from $105,146 (PO top pay) to $105,606 (Step 5 Sgt) because of that rule where you cant make less than you previously made?

Yeah this is what im saying. Are they going to hold the new bosses there for 5 years? And guys promoted before the 1/30/22 contract and not at top pay are they going straight to current sgt top pay? The 105,606 step doesnt exist for us, we just jump from 97,894 to 118,056.
it would make the most sense to me that guys promoted before 1/30/22 will immediately go to the current top pay regardless. The current top pay will probably be the 1st entry step for new sgts.
No. Current sgt pay will not get fixed. Again this is why that email was sent out. It's a big deal for those getting promoted after July 21.
Current sgts will just get the raise. No bump in steps.
Correct they will not adjust the steps, the SBA wanted to and it seems that the City will not agree so new SGT will get the % raises and thats pretty much it. Even though an option was to push new SGT to the last step before top pay and hold them there for 5 years, that doesn't seem to be happening either. All the more reason to get promoted to LT, just a shame but much like everything else it will take a lawsuit or a grievance being filed to get this fixed unfortunately.

So new Sgts are going to top pay and the ones promoted prior to this last promo are getting the short end of stick. Im pretty sure this happened before and that lawsuit went no where.
i found the chart... basically anybody who wasn't previously a detective prior to promo and/or @ step 5 or higher will make less than a top pay cop.
how could the union ever agree to something like that, and why would anybody take the rank for less pay and less overtime? The %'s agreed upon clearly need to be higher than PO. Why would ANY sergeant promoted after 1/2022 EVER vote yes?!
Come Simeone explain to me how newly promoted Sergeants are at $105k right now? And why wouldnt this apply to all Sergeants regardless of when they were promoted in the last year plus

sick rank. sick union.
This applies to all sgts not at top pay currently
i got promoted last year im pretty sure im currently not at 105.
Correct were definitely NOT at 105. $3688.63 x 26 = $96k only thing helping is 15 year longevity, a $2100 raise which is more than first 3 years combined.

right, because no one is at the 4th step yet from the new contract. so basically any sgt not at top pay is sitting at 96,000, not just those promoted since 1/30/22
Same reason we continuously keep getting shafted on contracts. Everyone you speak to says they will vote no, meanwhile its 90%+ vote yes and then blame the union.
Where do we stand on the non PBA unions fixing their pay scales to adjust for the new PO raise? Ive had several people including an SBA rep say that its going to get done soon. Anyone here been a part of those talks?
I answered my own question. Front page of the SBA website vallelong on June 1 said they are close to a new contract but they have to discuss details like 12 hour tours. Well see
Spoke to a friend yesterday. The sba spoke at bmoc and they are getting step 4. I thought I had it figured out. I know nothing.
How much is step 4?
Step 4 is $105000. So now rookie Sergeants are making more then Sergeants with 3 years or less in rank.
This happened last sgts list as well. I think SBA sued the city over it and ended up keeping them for 4 years at step 4 while everyone else took the hit. But it shouldnt matter as much this time since new starting pay is going to be way over 105,000 anyway and everyone will get a bump.

They cant legally keep you at 1 step for more than a year. This happened the last time the PBA settled their contract in 2017. Cops were making more than rookie Sergeants so they bumped all the sergeants to 4th step so they would be making more. SBA ended up suing the city for this and every Sergeant who was stuck at step 4 for a few years ended up getting a huge retro check for the years they were not making top pay after they were bumped.
It was negotiated with the last contract. You will be held at your step.
Held at what step? You mean you get bumped to step 4 and held there for 4 years? Or get held at whatever step you are currently at without an adjustment.
Any detective promoted after 1/2022 went to step 5. Unless they had 5 years in rank. Then they went to step 6 (top pay)
Any detective at step 5 must complete 4 years in rank to get to top pay and are frozen at step 5 for those 4 years. Easy way to think of it is that everybody in the same BMOC class hits top pay at the same time. This was agreed upon when the last contact was voted on. Shafted a few hundred detectives. Maybe more.
We are not all at 105 base we are still at 96 base. If any of this is true it wont happen until they settle. If everyone jumped to 105 you would have noticed a difference in pay unless it literally just happened and its taking 2 pay periods.
It has been confirmed by Labor Relations that all Sergeants promoted this past May 30th will be jumping to step 5, and staying at step 5 for 5 years (top pay is step 6). This will be reflected beginning on the July 21st paycheck when the PBA retro hits and the new raises kick in. Unfortunately, those promoted before the PBA settled will be going through steps 1-5 normally. The SBA is working to fix these discrepancies. The best advice is to be patient, and call Labor Relations if you want specific details about your situation.

step 5 for 4 completed years...
again you have to complete 4 years to get to top pay
