Can you guys please stop with the curve bullshit!! DCAS/DEPT should never curve any tests!!! It defeats the purpose of testing! How about try harder and study harder for the next one?? STOP with the curve bullshits! Be mindful that a lot of people who took this Lt exam were the ones that got made because of COVID extension or they never even passed with an 70 raw score on the last sgt exam.

 This post feels like trolling but youre right.  Curving a test to where a 60 will get you promoted is outright irresponsible.  I understand throw outs and maybe a 2-3 point adjustment but this is simply reckless.    Im not saying someone who had a bad Saturday wont make a good boss but I believe the ones who slip through can do some serious harm to the job.  Why do that when you can announce another test in 2 years and establish a second list in 3.

Captains received their adjusted scores around November 1, approximately 2.5 months after they took the test. You needed a 61 raw score after throwouts to make the captains list.

Lol did you even take this test? A 60 on this test is a 85 on a straightforward exam. Its easy for people to talk when all they have been handed are easy exams. People who studied a full year on this exam either failed, barely passed or got between an 80-85. Unlike the 2017 exam where everyone was getting high80s to 90s. I for one passed the 17 sgt with a high score and personally know those who went from failing to passing with the curve. And to be honest you can call them covid sgt or lt, but majority are good bosses and I personally know a few who were great street cops. So this exam does not gear you to be a better boss in any way. With various versions of these exams being administered, a curve is the only way to ensure fairness!

I get the sentiment, but keep in mind the ridiculousness of the questions that were asked on the exam. I am confident that there was a huge amount of people that failed on test day that sufficiently studied and learned the role of the Lieutenant as it applies in real world applications.

 I dont disagree but I am confident they are in the mid 60s.   Throw outs and a 2-3 point curve will get them on the list.

 Did you take the 2015 exam?  This was cake compared to that one.  


 And 2015 exam had the inbasket portion. It does not matter about what procedures they went to, it's about how much time you put in and how dedicated you are. I'm not saying it was an easy test but people shouldn't be hoping for the curve bullshit to get promoted if you can't even score a passing score or in the high 60s to pick up some throwout questions. Just study harder for the next exam.

Im a Sergeant regardless what I scored. I cant sit here & say Covid helped me or not because CARB delayed my promotion, if the list wasnt extended my CARB wouldve been done a lot quicker, being Dept extended the list, clearly the Dept wasnt in a rush. I was eligible for the Sept 2021 class so I dont fall in your troll category. You really are a miserable loser.

Department should have kept in basket. It was a great exercise for actually figuring out day to day operations. Memorizing bunch of nonsense that will be irrelevant in few years is just a waste.  This is incorrect, they might have scored 59 originally, but they must have received 2 throwouts at least. 61 final score made the list.

 As someone who passed I still hope for a curve and throwouts. For those that scored low like me it can only help to boost your score even if it creates a bigger list in the process. And to be honest it seems the trend has been larger lists and this latest SGT and Captains exam are both large lists so seems like the same will be for the LT list as well.. just my opinion if I do hear any concrete info I will post

Not to be negative or anything but hopefully youre not in the bracket where you may potentially get leaped frog by someone who has time on that originally failed. Remember, there are people out there that has time in rank that scored low on this test so say they scored a 68-69 raw, after they get the throwout points pass with 70+ they also get longevity points added which can potentially be anywhere from .5 to I believe 6 or 7 points max. That happened to the 2017 exam so its proven. Hopefully those original passers with 70s dont get leap frog which can potentially extend their promotion wait or even possibly being cut on the list down the line. Nonetheless, I hope everyone gets promoted.

People said the same thing about the Sgt exam, and it wasnt all that crazy. Im sure this LT test was a lot harder, that being said, Im sure who ever studied enough and the right way passed the exam. A lot of people dont know how to study for these kinds of exams.

let's be honest, and call a spade a spade... studying for a 100 question multiple choice exam pulled from a 3000+ page book, a giant admin guide, complaint guide, and LBB doesn't signify what kind of boss you will be...

Sure, when they curve the test (because they will, deal with it), people in the 60's, who knows maybe even 50's will get promoted. Some of them will be the best bosses you've ever worked with, others, the worst. The previous sentence can also apply to those who scored in the 80's and 90's or 100 raw score. All your score amounts to is when you get promoted. Not that you'll automatically be a better boss. It can be argued that covid sgt's and lt's had more time in the streets, investigating, supervising, doing police work, and gaining more real life experience then those promoted right off the bat because they scored high.

So passing what really amounts to a BS exam (for all ranks) is really just checking a box. Some cops will be good bosses, some will be shit. Some cops can't even be cops. If you had a gold braid in the academy you're right off the bat going to be an excellent cop? No, you passed some tests in a controlled setting with tons of prep, and you ran the mile and a half the fastest. Does this translate to walking a foot post in the 75? Absolutely not.

 Johnny is mad because he read the patrol guide 8 hours a day 7 days a week for a year straight and got an 80. And people who crammed for 2 weeks got in the low 60s but may end up passing because of a curve. (Work smarter not harder)

Curve will apply to Johnnys score as well. Not as much as for those who scored low 60s but hell get something.
Considering that this list will be bottom heavy, thats where those who studied smarter will end up, waiting 3+ years to get promoted.

You will not be able to verify the info I am going to provide. I really can only tell u bc it was told to me when I inquired. But I promise you the info is from a civil service law attorney who specializes in promotion exams nationwide. Hes very familiar w ny law and the debacle of Dcas previous exams. He stated the 70 passing score for promotional exams is arbitrary. In essence he stated each exam needs to be examined based on difficulty, analyze every question based on total # to get it right while looking at sex race etc. if you notice there has been a law firm involved with test writing since 2016. Theres a reason for that. I know the 70 rule has been around since most of us have been on the job, doesnt mean Dcas was following law. I forgot the case the lawyer mentioned about but I BELIEVE it was a case involving the guardians where this affirmed many many years ago
