The average is actually 180 a year historically. just so you know... probably will be a bit more with retirements.
Before July of this year this list was at 461 same as it was until yesterday. Thats an average of 230 a year on this list considering that was the 2 year mark. Thats not even factoring in the fact that covid slowed promotions down from March to June. Now with the vacancies assuming they matter a little bit it should be no less than 250 a year. But we shall see. Clearly the rules and the average of what they've done really doesn't apply at the moment. We shall see what the job has planned with these list extensions.

There was 110 and now there's about 300. So go figure, it's definitely going to be interesting.

Lol. I dont know what to think anymore. Im in the 1050-1100 range on this list, Ive been pretty settled in my head on being a sergeant for life, but now I just dont know. The extension plus number of vacancies gives my promotion hope, but it was just easier thinking the hope was dead!

With the extension, I definitely see them getting to your list number. With the large vacancies and 2 1/2 years left on the list I think they will get to you.
I just want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving ! We had a hell of a year in the NYPD this year and its not over yet. We were able to get that EDP out of the White House, but we still have that Corrupt thief DeBlasio in City Hall. DeBlasio will go the way of Trump. Who knows maybe they will both wind up in the same federal prison together. As for the lists, now that we have an extension, everyone will get promoted and the lists will be exhausted until the next exam. But the question is who the hell would want to get promoted after the events of this year. The list is getting extended not because it is the right thing to do, but because the department and DCAS are in shambles and do not have the capability to execute new promotional exams under the COVID. There are a lot of miserable Sergeants and Lieutenants on this job. The termination of Anti-Crime put an end to the era of Stop and Frisk. Police Officers are hiding from arrests now. The department forced dozens of officers off of the job this year while the unions just sat by and ordered food delivered to their PBA and SBA offices with our union dues.

Most likely they're going to get to your list number. Thats why you should remain positive.
