Pay increase

Hello all. I have a Quick question im hoping someone here may have the answer to. A current top pay Lt makes more base pay than starting base salary for captain. Does this mean that said Lt, if promoted now starts off at a higher step at captain and thus reaches top pay quicker? I heard recently the CEA won a lawsuit regarding such when the job tried to keep captains at a lower scale for 3 year before giving them top pay. Does anyone have a greater level of understanding regarding this? Can anyone shine light on this?

A base pay Captain makes about 4,000 dollars more than a top paid Lt. With the new contract.

Ok. I just looked it up. On nov 2020 top pay Lt will make  $135,511 while starting captain will be $134,374 until april 2021...i will imagine any new captain between november and april will be making less than top pay Lt.

You are correct, but starting Nov 1, 2020, base Captains start at 138,600. I don't think anyone is gonna care since it's only for a few months. Plus Top pay Captain will make 176,449 by may 2022.
