thanks. I have seen these numbers in the past but can't locate them now. I guess what I'm really concerned about is actually getting promoted off this list. I'm toward the bottom and getting a little antsy. What is the possibly that the whole list gets promoted?
Anniversary date of list release today. Promotions came first week of August 2018. We are ahead of the 60 a year pace, but only by a handful. At this point there is reason to be optimistic, as we all know these things fluctuate. We will see. One things for sure, Im not studying again lol.

that's only because there was no promotions for about a year before that first promotions in August,, (btw it was the last week of august)
For years 2016, 2017, and 2018 they averaged exactly 48 a year. This is accurate.
It's actually 47 a year but bigfoot is close enough. Ladies and gentlemen...if you are over list number 200 you need to be concerned. I wouldnt exactly say panic at this moment though. If i was a betting man i would say the list gets to 210...no way in hell is the job going to over promote by 50 or so people. That would be an entire years worth of captains.

Agreed, I'm not taking another either. It was hard enough getting motivated at all for the last one. I don't know if the whole list will get made. Top 200 are certainly safe. They can probably promote another 15 or 20. Will they over promote 40 or 50 guys to finish the list? I don't know. I know they certainly want to promote the whole captain's list. So if they can figure it out they will.
Lastly, the average is 48 a year for the past 3 calendar years. Yes, the past 12 months have been bloated and skewed (which is a good thing) because there wasn't a list and the need grew. If it goes back to 48 promotions a year from this point forward they would get to list number 219 give or take. Again, will they over promote about 40 or 50 guys? They will try. I know that is the sentiment. However, we will probably have a new PC by then and things change. Let's hope for the best and have a backup plan just in case.

Your still better off as a LT making OT so who gives a damn. Cut me please and save me from myself taking this stupid promotion which is a pay cut and a headheach anyway.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but does anyone know the starting pay for Captains ?
I know a top pay LT with OT makes more than a starting pay Captain, but what about a top pay LT with no OT ? What would the difference in pay be ?
Dont have the pay chart. But Suffolk is currently at 139k base for PO and 155k after there current contract is done in 2024. Takes 12 years to get to top step since 2012. So not sure how big there jumps are year to year. All of them are well over 200k with overtime etc
As a home owner in long island that's more disgusting to read considering this was a proposed deal that the pba agreed on not like they fought tooth and nail to get. I dont know how their salary just continues to go through the roof and cops will make almost same amount as our commissioner. Glad I pay sky high taxes to live here...
Don't forget the first captain promotion off our list in August 2018 also had 10 from the previous list so it's moving at a pretty good rate. Not saying the bottom of the list is 100% safe, but also it's looking like they'll make it to the end even if they slow down a bit on promotions. Every time I see a chief or inspector retire all I think is "Awesome, another spot."

GOOD FOR THEM! Only a very small percentage of your taxes goes towards their salary. A majority of your taxes goes towards the school district!

I agree, i don't understand why it's so difficult for some to become a Mr/Ms...this machine will continue to run with or without them. Why not get out at a decent age to have some enjoyable quality of life? Just my $0.02.

Because most of them are power hungry losers and will be NOTHING without this job.

I am seriously considering not taking the promotion as I have an awesome, flexible gig making 40 a month. So you may just move up ,lol and good luck.
It's definitely not an easy decision to make...good gig, ot, flexibility to who knows where u will end up, no ot, no flexibility, stat after stat..i guess it depends on your future plans and how much time u have left. Its definitely a personal choice as you will definitely make more as a Lt but at the sacrifice of spending more time at work but at the end of the day, what does it matter right? Since we are all in it for the end game at 233 Bwy it may make financial sense to turn it down. Best of luck whichever way the pendulum swings though..
