So since the next tentative promotion date after the 5th is scheduled for the 29th, should we assume people will get notified this week for mentoring if mentoring is still happening?

If the current promotion numbers continues in this trend, it means in the next 3 years or so, only around 50 Sergeants will be promoted to the Lieutenant rank per quarter.  This equals to roughly around 200 promotions per year for the next 3 years.  By the time the list expires, it should get up to around 900 (maybe less).  Not sure if the Department is going to extend the promotion from this list after the expiration date.  It's safe to say that people with the higher list numbers should consider studying for the next Lieutenant's exam just to be on the safe side.

No promotion March 29th. No promotion in April. Next promotion date is Friday May 3rd.

Buckle up. This seems to be the trend. 3 or 4 promos a year for LTs. Why is anyone surprised by this? LTs have the lowest attrition rate of all the ranks. Honestly, if they put 4 classes in a year Id say thats generous.

Was told today that the PC signed off on a LTS promotion/BMOC. Promotion is scheduled for LTs May 3rd. Working on trying to find out how many.

If the LTs list dies at 550, the sgts list dies at 1400. The two are always proportionate.

The city is cutting back (financially) in every aspect. The uniform count is slowly going down, while the civilian count is increasing. The department is trying to replace a lot of uniformed admin positions with cheaper civilians.

The department is also cutting back on operational overtime (city-wide) exponentially. The Police Officer count is decreasing, which leads to a need for less Sergeants.

The city wants the Department to "do more with less" and with the "drop" in crime, it makes it easier for the department to do so.

We need a spike in crime for the city to realize that more cops is a NECESSITY. So if you're out on patrol, stop ****-canning these majors and just let it be.

If we do approximately 4 classes of approximately 50 people thats around 200 a year which everyone is saying is the average. If we hit around 265-270 at the one year mark, we are obviously ahead of the game. I dont know why everyone is freaking out like this is a surprise. Everyone here is just speculating just like every list on this forum. Nobody knows whats going to happen.

I agree, and theres a lot of debbie downers here, but november to may is 6 months. 50, if its that high of a number, in 6 months is pretty bad.

Agree with shots fired. We started the list off real hot and even as bad as the last months have been we are on pace to out do the average. Everyone relax and let it happen. Plus start whispering in the ears of those dinosaur LT that retirement is bliss.

Dont think so lol,..unlike the other unions (PBA, DEA and SBA), LBA only hires NEW Lieutenants based on vacancies,...1 for 1,.this is why this whole list will not be made....its a sad reality but this is why this rank is so competitive,...lets hope these 30 year lieutenants retire in droves in the coming months/year,...stay tuned,...

I have to agree with dr papi I think the list will maybe hit 700, no one is leaving and if the PBA gets a decent contract all these lts are going to stick around. My Lt has 27 years on and talking to him he said he aint going anywhere.

Since Sgt mentoring ends on April 7th and mostlikely bmoc starts on the 8th for them... will the May 3rd promotion still stand? Since it would make only their bmoc a 4 week one which is not the norm (usually 5-7)?

They will just finish bmoc as a Sergeant. My class was promoted to sergeant in the third week of bmoc. Happens alot, especially around the holidays.

The llist reaching 700 has nothing to do with what DR PAPI is saying.  Hes saying no promotions until the fall.  There is no way in hell he knows that in the month of March.  Hes stating his opinion as if its fact

They can wait 6 months and put in several large classes or small ones right after another etc. It doesn't matter the rate of lieutenant promotion. What matters is the rate of lieutenant of retirement and captain rate of promotion.

Justwonderin is correct...drpapi is a buffoon who has been exposed on numerous occasions. Yes this seem to be slowing up. Guys the reality is that the job is no longer 20 and out. These old farts are staying til 25 maybe even 30.  The list being cut around 600 to 700 is a real possibility...it is what it is

Zero percent chance this list gets cut at 700 or less. List will be near 300 if not over for the first year. If you think they dont make 400 lieutenant over the next 3 years youre out of your mind. Not saying this list goes over 1000 but no way top 700 dont make it. Facts.

Well one fact is that no Lts list has ever reached 800 names. cry

The above poster said 600-700 not 800. Youre entitled to your opinion. Im in the high 700s and Im not even the slightest bit worried I wont make it.  A lot can happen in 3 plus years.

If youre under 800 you should be safe. With the anticipated group of 45ish in May that puts this list at around 250/260 for the first year. Dont expect that rate to continue. You need to remember that there was a significant gap in time between when the 2015 list was exhausted and when the new list was established. It was about a 9 month dry spell with no list. That resulted in a backlog of LT vacancies to the tune of 100+ by the time the first group on the new list was promoted on June 5th. 100 or so names from this year were really covering for the previous 9 months and playing catch up to fill those vacancies. When you factor that 9 month gap in, the historical average of about 175 a year is the real number. There is no reason or expectation for the job to deviate from this.
