Sgt Vacancies

Does anyone have any new information regarding the current vacancies for Sgts?

I think knowing that would help.

Thanks!

I believe there are currently 13. Someone posted that 4 additional ppl were added to BMOC starting tomorrow.  If that is true then there should be 9 vacancies.

this is what confuses me. All my bosses including my CO said they need 2 sgts per 6 cops now with this nco program, they need two sgts per squad. That being said the department would be down 500-600 sgts because that would be about 5 -7 bosses extra a command needed. we barely have enough sgts at my command per cop, so how does anyone determine openings at sgt? where does that come from

2 Sgts per 6 cops...... Who gave you this ridiculous ratio?  Let's reduce the fraction to 1 Sgt to 3 cops.  Jay, does this make sense to you?  You mean to tell me that a command with 120 cops is going to have 40 Sgts?   What exactly would these 40 Sgts be doing in this relatively small command?  This makes no sense and is utter nonsense.

When my PCT CO saw us looking at a 2700 person sgt list he immediately said, "it makes sense. The job wants 3 sgts per squad with the NCO program. They want increased supervision on patrol.".

Now, I don't know if they go to special meetings where they discuss things like this, but he is convinced that with the nco program, there will be 3 sgts per patrol squad.

 Lol thats utter nonsense.

Most details ive been to recently is 12 cops per 1 sgt.

There wouldnt be enough lockers in any command in the city for 3 and 1. The sgts would be coming to work in their uniforms.

do you think the thing thats going to stop the dept from changes is because they are concerned about the locker situation? cmon

The job is looking to make the ratio Of SGT to cops smaller, the nco program is going to explode. Its gonna be zone captains overseeing LTs with SGTs with way more ncos almost aseparate detail. Captains will be nco zone captains before they become x.os .... ask around lts and capts know

Bro, you know for a fact that the job always finds a way to conform. They always do for their own reasons. They are def not worried about that. If they have to they will merge a custodian room to change in.

You seem to. be the only one who hasn't heard that... I go to NCO stat every quarter this isn't just a rumor it's what the department is moving towards to have more accountability for the cops. The work load with these body cameras is going to increase tremendously for supervisors. yes my command has about 120 cops and guess what the details that come down some days we don't even have a PS, our desk acts as both so you clearly don't know what your talking about Bigfoot  should I say bigmouth

Some days your command doesnt have a ps? There is no way that happened. Youre telling me the do is the only boss working calling all the shots from the desk?

And why stop at 3 to 1 ratio? Just go to 1 to 1 ratio.

Absolish the Lt rank and make some po's corporals.

Yeah I dont see that happening either. Theres always at least someone else in the building..crime boss, DV, etc..and if not, they would fly in a Sgt from another command that has extra boss working that tour. That Ive seen bunch of times

Wow jay...you crossed the line going after bigfoot. He is a legendary guru who is always on point with his info while your sources are precinct COs at nco stat meetings. Please jay...stop with the fake news and your psuedo-science theories. The authorized uniform headcount is what it is...stop making stuff up and giving people false hope!

Well said bigfoot...well said. People just dont want to accept reality. I've taken four promotional exams in my career...passed two and failed two. If you dont make it this time jay because the list expires and you are number 2045 then just take it again. But the worst thing you can do is give guys false hope.

I have a theory that they might hire 1000 Sgts this year. Tell me if it makes sense. I heard approximately 300-400 Sgts are retiring this year. Another 200 Sgts will get promoted LT this year. At my command there is an average of 11.5 cops per squad Sgt. On my tour there are 42 POs and 4 Sgts. I checked at my adjacent command and its a little over a 11 POs per squad Sgt. If the job decides to just strictly enforce the 1 Sgt for every 8 POs for precinct rule. Then my command would need 4.5 extra Sgts and my adjacent command 4 extra Sgts. If Theres similar staffing numbers Dept wide and they want 1 Sgt for 8 cops then the Dept would have to hire an extra 300-400 Sgts. If you add everything I mentioned up thats 800-1000 Sgts this year. Just a theory.

You guys are assuming that the job cares about the ratio.  I've been in this job for quite a while,  10+yrs and I've never seen the ratio match.  There has never been enough bosses for cops in my time on this job. Implementation of NCO won't change that.

Ha, that is probably true....but lets just use common sense, that 3 to 1 ratio is just Stupid And impossible. No sources needed.

I'm hearing within the next few years the Department is looking to promote more sergeants than the number of PO's, thereby effectively morphing the PO's into patrol supervisors. There will be a Sergeant exam once per year until the ratio of 6 Sgt's per 1 PO is met. The sergeants will comprise all sector cars department wide and will carry out the duties of PO from here on out... At least that's the word on the street.

As of March 2nd, there are 45 sergeant vacancies (which includes allotment for SDS/SSA), and an additional 33 on terminal leave. As mentioned before, keep in mind this doesn't necessarily mean the job has to fill the spots. It's just the authorized headcount.

Stop trolling.. Rookie..... If Pony tail had prepared your test you would be ****ting bricks now...... wondering if your score is enough to get made..    Most guys who took this last LT's test went through the "Capt V" storm.... and got what was do to them the first time, the second time around.... You'll soon see.. I hear they plan on bringing him back to the testing unit bc they don't know where else to put him...

Funny......You want what I have had for many years.   Whos the herb....  you must be a rookie too..  No one is cryin here. .... Go stand on your foot post. Rookie,,,,,,, However, back to the point.....When you start taking jabs at me and my brother/ sister sgts who scarficed 12-18 months out of our lives,  just to be side swiped, (yes I was one of them), pisses me off.. As you would be too. Joking /trolling how easier the last LT exam was is crazy to me. Its like you calling us stupid. If anything our scarfices paved the way for you....... Let it be known, those 2500 or so of us who failed the test before last, it wasnt because we didnt put the work in. I rather you guys just say thank you until you study and take your LTs test.

Even you Rookie...... oh,,,,,,,,,,,,

Did it take you 4 times to pass the Sgt exam? Great, you got promoted once in all these years.

I could see why youd be bitter as hell. Relax, dont take the stuff you read on these boards so seriously. Someone with your time should know this. Unless you need us rookies to explain how this whole Internet thing works.
