If youre top pay SDS/SA,..take the promotion ,.I mean, you studied right? Why throw it all away at this point ?,..

If youre not at top pay SDS/SA, wait until you get to top pay and then take the promotion.

My Opinion:

If SDS, You have the experience in your specialty which will just opens doors for LDS in the future. (TAKE IT)

If SSA in a good gig with 40 hours and you don't plan on going any further than LT... (definitely weigh your options)

Depends how much time you have left and if you're looking to go higher. I like my 3 day swing every other week plus chart days or straight chart days with no 3 day swing making LT money.  For me it would be a no brainer, SA is the way to go. To each his own. Good luck!

LT SA is the way to go.  Take your promotion.

Why do u think u cant get LSA/LCD a few years down the road? If u have the connections to get it now u should be able to get as Lt unless your hook retires.

I wouldnt say its that bad lol.

The problem is you are the lowest supervisor so you are doing 90% of all the supervisory duties.

Again I'm going to say it depends on your personal situation. How much time do you have left, are you looking to go the captain route, age of children if any, etc. If you think that you know you'd be stopping at LT and not going higher, I'd take SA Sgt over LT all day long. Think about it, you're actually doing better than an LT. You'll be making top pay LT money getting chart days and/or 3 day swings. You'll make less appearances and chances are if you're an SA Sgt you're probably in a good detail. More importantly, people forget about the union benefits. I know a few Lts with kids who are paying more for health care then they would have had they still been in the SBA. Things that were no cost through the SBA now have out of pocket costs as an LT.  Now if you know LSA is possible down the road, that's a different story.  Good luck!
