starting is always going to only be a couple grand more, its the top pay you have to worry about, which is about 20 grand more

Sergeant Detective Squad.....   A Discretionary promotion within the rank of Sergeant... For Patrol Sergeant Special Assignment  (SSA).....

Let me clarify.... If a Sergeant is lucky enough to get the Discretionary promotion while performing duty in an Investigative Track, ie Narco, Squad, Intel, IAB, etc.  his/her rank would be SDS.  If that same Sergeant assigned is to a Patrol / Unit, the rank would then be SSA..   If the SSA now gets transferred to an investigative unit, his/hers rank with change over to SDS... visa versa ..

 Yeah,...very tough to give up,...especially those chart days,...Lt don't get chart days for 7 years,..
