Due for Sgt promo April - June 2017 / can I register for DCAS LT exam as a PO ?

I keep getting mixed messages from people.

if someone is going to get promoted TO SERGEANT approx around February - June of 2017

is it Possible to register for the LT Exam as the Rank of PO prior to that Sergeant Promotion ?

i'm not talking about taking the LT exam as a PO or what if you get jammed up or what if they have 8 months of ZERO sgt promotions, I'm literally asking if  you can    "register online for the LT Exam as a PO ". in hopes the SGT promotion comes Through on time and prior to "LT Exam date" ?

If you get promoted to sergeant after the filling period is closed, you can still file. When I was the CO of Leadership Training (which included BMOC) my office would hand deliver the applications and money orders direct to DCAS.

My advice to you would be to just wait until you get promoted. Study and don't even think about this since everyone in your bmoc will be in the same boat

Ok thank you very much
I appreciate it
The last thing i want is to study for this next Lt exam and then find out i cannot take it because I got promoted after the filing date. Thanks for clearing that up for me

Same thing happened to me before last Lt exam. Yes you can register for Lt test as a PO. I did, DCAS sent me a letter about 1 month before the test stating that I am not eligible because I am still a PO. But at that time I was already in BMOC and simply appealed their decision. They asked for finest message stating that I am currently in BMOC. After I provided them with that proof I was granted permission to take the test.

Backing up EZE. Yes BMOC still does the same thing. Instructors will distribute applications in class and then deliver them completed with money orders to DCAS.

By law you are eligible to take Lt test with one day in rank of SGT. Regardless of whether you registered for it or not in advance.

About 340 names away. What the chances I'll be promoted in time for the exam?

I think it depends what date they announce the test for. There was some rumor of July, that's only 7 months from now. If that's the case, there will need to be a class of at least 50 every month for you to make it. That may be a little tough. If they announce the test for the end of the summer or the fall you will have a better chance. You are very close to the borderline, you may just have to roll the dice depending on the date given.

I agree with you..

but realistically, will the job give a LT promotional exam with only 200 Sgt OR LESS, who are waiting to be promoted ?

I know this job doesn't care about "us" but from a business perspective as well, it seems unlikely.

If they announce it for June/July, i would bet money they will delay it to August-November since it seems to be a pattern of

delaying exams more than 1x lately to have more eligible peopel take the exam.

Happened with 2013 Sgt exam -- June to Oct whether it was for extra questions to eligible cops or whatever

and it obviously happened with this current Sgt exam which definitely allowed more cops to take the exam

not sure if it happened with the 2015 LT exam..

But that would be (is likely) silly as hell to not wait till the entire 2013 sgt list is up BECAUSE there is so little left on the list, before giving the LT exam

unless they really do enjoy going through this process when they can simply have more LT on a list rather than **** the

remaining amount on the 2013 list.

obviously anything is always possible, but what is more "Probable" in this case ?

Positive Energy .. that everyone on the 2013 sgt list will be promoted and make it for the LT exam.

Focus on what you want and it will happen blankstare :::crossing fingers:::

Remember, they postponed the sgt test bec of the cheating and needing to find a weekday test date and all. Plus 200 on the list isn't that many. 6 months until the exam plus 6 months for the list to come out and they'll be done with the list.

Alright. Thanks. I guess I'll study with the assumption ill make the cutoff. Just too important to pass on a potential opportunity.

"It's better to be Prepared for an opportunity and not have one.Than to have one and not be Prepared."

- Les Brown. Check him out on you tube if you need some motivation lol.

I am in the low 700s on the 2013 Sgt list, not sure if I will make it in time for this Lt. Opportunity but I am absolutely going to study 110%. Worst case scenario I will be a very knowledgeable Sgt, at this point I forgot most of the **** I studied the first time around anyway lol.

In your case I wouldn't hit it too hard. Maybe once you're closer, around 3-4 months before the test? Maybe get the rising Star package and hit it hard.

Even if they promote every person passed over so far and there are no more passovers all I would need is an average class size of 30-40 people promoted a month starting January in order to get into bmoc in July. Even if the test is in July most of us in the 700s should have a great shot at making it just in time.

Tack on 6 months to every month your in. In January, estimate exam for July and so on. I can't expect an exam in the summer time. The Lt exam will most likely be administered at the Jacob Javits Center. Too many conventions and events in the summer. I can expect the exam no sooner than September. I'm reading the P.G. now, so I can study later when the announcement is made.

Only 200 left on list not counting passovers ... the test is gonna be sooner rather than later

Highly doubt the Javits Center will be used. This option was explored for the Sgt exam, outcome was its too expensive. They will use NYC public schools for the exam. I would say July is a safe bet, so start studying all!!

There's still a bitter taste in people's mouth bec of the last exam. A lot of people are not sitting for this exam. A lot of the 10 years guys are not even bothering. In my command no one has signed up yet and don't care to.
On the other hand, the younger guys I know in my old cmd. the ones who couldn't take the last test are more gung ho.
A lot of them are doubling up. Rising Star/key, etc. haven't heard of anyone else tripling up though. Lol

More people will sign up once an exam is announced.  I, for one, will sign up for a course when I know more of what's going on.
