Does anyone know if you have to be the rank of Lieutenant to register for the Captains exam or can you register for the Captains exam as a sergeant ? So lets say the test is November 2017 and they announce the exam in May 2017 but I get promoted to Lieutenant in October of 2017 etc....

 You can sign up for it in any rank and in the past you could even take the test no matter what rank you were, as of a couple years ago though they take your money and then eventually  verify your rank and send you a letter stating your not eligible instead of sending you a entry to the exam (seating card).
