Elite Guide vs. The Essential Guide

HOLY MOLY no way!! Don't memorize form numbers or what section 212-107 is....but honestly..everything else is pretty much fair game

Those numbers are more to cross reference where it came from. Do not go crazy with it you will lose your mind. I personally think you can't go wrong with either as long as you study hard. Good luck.

Looking at the Elite Guide, it says "Police Department Chaplains and Surgeons have the assimilated rank of Inspector". Then, in a box under it, it states, "Chaplains and Surgeons = simulated rank of Inspector". REALLY? If that's what the Elite guide is all about, I'd be careful. I can figure out the obvious, lol. The Essential Guide from R.S. looks cleaner, less confusing and more like the PG.

Yanosik uses something called "repetition equals retention " or something along those lines. This is why you would see a sentence explained then repeated over .As far as which way to study , well that is going to be an individual choice. What worked for one might not necessarily work for you . The secret is simple: Read and re read the PG and you will be fine.

In truth, if the job simply updated the PG reliably it would be the best PG. Needless to say it doesn't. The schools are great with incorporating interim orders and the like. I'm sure you'll be good with either version.

At the end of the day, how much you retain is far more important than what or how much you read. This is a primarily a memory test. You and everyone reading this should do themselves a HUGE favor and get a few books on improving reading retention and memory NOW! Different methods work for different people. The better books will provide several strategies. Find one or two that work for you and stick with them. It will make your time spent studying more bearable, FAR more productive and win you a lot of points on test day.

I studied hard but, looking back, I have to admit I was just plowing through information. A lot of my colleagues say they felt the same way. It's an overwhelming amount of material. I agree that the more questions you do the better. The questions the classes provide are great for revealing strengths and weaknesses. On the other hand, they can give you a false sense of security or destroy your confidence altogether. Either way, after answering innumerable questions, I simply plowed through the information again. I repeated this cycle several times. It was wildly inefficient and only marginally effective. It didn't matter if I answered 1M questions. I wasn't studying smart enough. It was a huge blunder on my part.

Don't make the same mistake I made. The classes breeze over this subject. I don't fault them. Frankly, they have too much material to cover to give it much time. Besides, like I said, different techniques work for different types of people anyway. You're going to devote a lot of your life to this effort. These types of books are generally a quick read. You'll need to invest a few days reading them at most. It is well worth the small effort. You'll be glad you did.

The job's online Patrol Guide is always up to date with all Interim Orders.

The Essential Guide BLOWS the Elite guide out of the water! I am excited to be studying for an exam for the first time! Great job with the lessons...Keep the lessons coming!!!!!

The essential guide is better and I feel its all you really need to study for the sgt exam. Maybe the Key app or the academy questions to have a secondary source to review from.
