Mag 25 rant thread

I'm happy and all that I passed but I just want to put some things out there that I don't think some of you have thought about. I'm pretty disappointed that I'll never have the opportunity to wear a second hash mark or a longevity bar with an X. I also hate that I'm not really going to have much incentive to stay 25 years since I'll be guaranteed a full inspector pension at 20. Getting promoted to captain so young on the job is not all sunshine and rainbows.

Lmao. How corny can some of you guys be? Some of us pass test. Some of us are real cops. Very few are both. No matter what you are only humility can make you genuine.

I am so sorry Wannabecaptain. I too know that feeling. Perhaps we could form a support group to get us through this unprecedented meteoric rise through the ranks.

If guys took more pride in job performance and less in passing a multiple choice test the job would be in a better state. Ok so you passed all three test but yet you can barely articulate a SQF or have the heart to even stop someone. That shield is just a facade for a lot of guys. In reality if you are gloating about how fast you made Captain to other Lt's who didn't you are a clown and far from a leader. Enjoy the rank. There are a host of Lt's who will pass the next test and make D.I. before you. Enjoy your moment. Time will tell.

now we see what came of all the shrimpy little guys that got abused in high school. Tough on a message board with their colleagues. Weak in the street.

SQF is why I take tests. It's much easier to tell guys to go out and stop people from the comfort of my sweet inside gig than to stop those dangerous folks myself.

Something tells me that's not a joke........That's sad. Just be safe out there when you are called upon to lead. Hopefully you won't be.

Definitely not a joke. Some of us are meant to be tough guys and put hands on people and fail exams and others such as myself are meant to to retire with a full inspector pension in our early 40s with fewer collars than years on the job.

Like I said just be safe. Bleed the job for everything you can. If you can hold your head up that's all that matters. As sorry as you are you do have a point.

The #2 pencil is mightier than the sword. Jman in the likely event that you are still a failure after you fail to get the 10 or whatever changes you need, I'll be needing an angry tough guy like you to be my special ops Lieutenant.

Let's not resort to this bickering. Perhaps we can make a seperate thread only to be accessed by the MAGXXV so we can talk intellectually and intelligently. To access said thread you would need to answer 5 very fair, well written patrol guide questions, something 94% of this board obviously can not do.

We are the 6 percenters-we are the MAGXXV.

I felt bad for J-Man until today, but i think he really loves the attention. He said it best when he said he has 100's of Lieutenants and others from the sgt forums hanging on his every word.

J-Man face it......You are a star!!!!! Im really rooting for you to be in the same class with these guys. You may not make the Magnificent 25 class over the summer (although all 25 wont make the 1st class, most likely 12-15) but you may catch the guys near 70. I mean you will never catch up to their accomplishments in life and be as magnificent as them, but you could sit in the same classroom with them.

I don't care if U get chief of dept pension, unless u are single with no house, kids or wife, u will have to either do 25 or find another job. A full bird pension from 10 yrs ago is a whopping 60k plus 12k variable. Good luck!

Here is the contract from 2003, only 10 years ago. Inspectors are on page 5.

www.nyc.gov/html/olr/downloads/pdf/collective_bargaining/Captains,%20CBU%2017,%20Captains'%20Endowment%20Association,%20Executed%20Contract,%2011-01-03%20to%2003-31-12.pdf

So 120k plus holiday, etc. Lets say 130 after all is said and done. Half pay = 65 plus the variable, which is on the chopping block all the time, I wouldn't bank on it.

I failed miserably, it was my choice not to study seriously. I congratulate those who passed, and I hope those who put the time in get over the top.

I know everyones family, life, and personal situations differ. For the vast majority of MOS, doing 20 and never working again, as wannabecapt seems to imply here, is totally unrealistic, full bird pension or not.

Top pay captain annual salary is 146k with total benefits equals to 160k. I don't know fir sure but I bet that inspector makes probably 10k more.

Full inspector pension in my early 40s. Sign me up. I hear the links in South Carolina are nice this time of year.

That is true but where I'm going with this is look at the figures from 2003, only 10 years ago. If you got out at 41 or 42 back then, you are now in your early 50's. Most people are still paying for college, mortgages, etc at that point in their life. Inflation eats away at your pension quickly and what seems like a lot now will not be so much in just a few short years. In late 2003, a gallon of gas was under $2 per gallon. The average cell phone bill was around $40 a month back then, and a movie ticket was $6.00 on average. The toll on the Verrazano Bridge and the other MTA B&T was $7 as opposed to $15 now.

The rank is 100% a smart move pension wise especially for guys without much time on.

But to think you're going to retire after 20 and go play golf everyday is a pipe dream.

Top pay inspector as of 4/1/11 makes 162,472.

DI is 154,300.

Deputy chief is 171,142.

At this point it's all politics for me, I've done my part passing all the tests. Hopefully can make a few jumps.
