I don't think 61 to 64 were the grammar questions. I think they were later in the test. the grammar questions were the most straight forward of all questions on the test. In addition, they always have grammar on the tests, no one should have been blindsided by these. if it's your weakness then you should have prepared for it. yawn

I had thought that someone might challenge those questions in that manner, however I don't agree. I don't think it is unfair for the department to expect its middle managers to be able to speak and write in proper english. I think they give too much leeway to new recruits (even American born), have you read some of the 61's out there. That being said I don't agree with the amount of grammer questions, and I do think PG knowledge is more important, but I think they would lose that challenge.

Anyone who tries to sue is just Waisting time. If they throw out the test you'll still have to take another one. So the people who passed get screwed. Very selfish. Another exam will come out real soon. But if you sue then everyone is going to have to wait years. If you failed suck it up and take the next one!

I was so mad about all the grammer, judgement questions etc, but honestly I only got 7 wrong from 68 to the end. I had no chance to pass or be in the position to pass if it was all PG because most of the questions people are protesting or got housed on came from 21-64. I would say the average person scored a 50% from those 44 questions.

Thats not true, honestly yea I guessed on a few, but I really didn't think they were as hard as the PG ones. There was a few, but mostly everyone I have spoke to got around 10 or less wrong on the last 1/3 of the test, and the last 10 were relatively easy. I thought the PG questions were just crazy and confusing, and each one was half a page long filled with alot of conflicting details.

I am only stating from talking to the Sgt's at my command, to each his own though.

I do not know what legal system you guys use, or what city you work for, but where I am the city does whatever it wants and steamrolls right over the little guys. The list WILL be established when the city wants with the exact number of people they want on it. I had a lucky Saturday, David taking on Goliath and winning is not happening, this is not a fairytale. Stay angry and be happy the next test will be in three years.

things of the past, i know. now its harward, columbia ect graduates who cant get themselves desired jobs, spineless, 3-5 collars at best, sweat over cmnd log when signing it, hide behind rank and hoping for more tests like this to become inspectors and chiefs. THE BELIVERS!!!

i did drop out of school got my GED went to airforce joined the job, got guns and bad guys off the street(or at least to court). now looking out for cop's safety and make sure i give my all to make it the "good day at work" for everyone, everyday. i use microsoft word to do my 49s. anyway i m sorry, this is a waist of your time, i am going back to the page where ppl discuss the upcoming protest.

There is nothing more disgraceful than hearing cops going to priority jobs and screaming in a foreign language over the radio. ****ing embarassment. We're all Sergeants and have all read 61's that would barely pass for the work of a 3rd grader. You want the rank of Lieutenant, you should have basic reading and writing skills. Like it or not, this test is gonna be the direction the dept is going on future promotional exams, especially for Lt's and Capt's.
I failed this test but happen to agree in a way.
Here's my point, I have always believed that just memorizing the PG for one Saturday does not make a good boss, I think most of you would agree to that. I never really understood why you have to know 98% of this stuff when all you have to do is look it up when something happens that you don't know the procedure for. I mean in this day and age it's right there on our ever present cell phones that no one here would leave the house without, or it's on our MDT or worst case scenario at the desk.
Being a good boss is being fair and reasonable and treating your peers and subordinates with fairness and respect and being able to make managerial decisions, which most bosses these days aren't willing or can't do. Being a boss, especially a Lt also means report writing and being able speak and give presentations at meetings as well as being able to read reports and understand them (Vocabulary and reading comprehension). I believe all the reading comprehension, math and grammar were fair game.
I think the job isn't happy with its current supervisors so is therefore trying to change the qualifications needed to move up the ranks.
If English is you second language that's great, it's one more language than I can speak, but you still need to be able to do the required job, whether that's write a report, give a presentation, or figure out the increase in percentage of robberies in the last 28 days.

People in many other fields are always taking classes or seminars to stay up on changing trends in their fields. If your English or grammar isn't up to par and you are serious a about beings LT or Capt, take a course, read a book, buy Rosetta Stone don't just sit there and cry foul.
