I'm just wondering if there is or not shortage of sergeants in NYPD because it does affect the rate of promotions. So, I'm making a poll to see if your command is lacking supervisors or not.
I don't necessarily think there's a shortage of sgts, but there is allegedly a huge class of recruits going into the pa this January. That will create a need for some more supervisors. I also think having a large sgt list just makes it available for the dept to promote people if the need arises. Promoting 40-60 people every two or three months really isn't promoting that many people at an alarming rate, indicating that there is some need, but not a dire need for more sgts.
my command has 16 sergeants and 6 lieutenants...when i got there 5 years ago there were 32 sergeants i believe...we had almost every squad, even midnights with 2 sgts, all special ops teams had a sgt (2 crime sgts, 3 conditions sgts, 1 SNEU sgt, School sgt, DV sgt, Comm Affairs sgt)...now we have 2 crime sgts, 1 conditions sgt that also covers schools, 1 sneu sgt, no DV sgt- our 2nd Plt Commander covers DV and no Comm Affair Sgt and some squads without a boss...we also barely have the amount of cops we had back then also so i guess it works hand in hand...nonetheless, i dont know what other commands are like but we rarely get anyone outta BMOC unless theyre super hooked up...i dont know where u heard that the january class of recruits is gonna be huge but i hope ur right...i heard maybe july will be 1000 recruits but i doubt it...i dont know how theyre gonna even get to the next list with the amount of cops the way it is...it seems like everyday is bare minimum

In my command we are short one LT and there are a couple of squads that don't even have Sgt's. When I first got to the command a couple of squads were doubled up. So in my opinion we need bosses.
