2006 NYPD Lt Exam

I've been told by two of my sources that it looks like promotions are being pushed back to June. Bottom line i'm told is that hardly no Lt's are retiring. It will take a number of more months to just break even and then additional months to create enough vacancies for a class. They are not going to go above quota again. Will keep you informed as I hear.

i am the high 500's and i KNOW it will be awhile..........at this point, i would just like the opportunity to take the next captains exam, but at this rate, i wont be promoted in time.

At this rate we might have to worry if we get promoted at all! I'm after your list number and all ready i'm nervous. Long way to go so we'll see how things go month to month.

As of Jan. 3, 2008, the budgeted allocations for LSA and LCD were increased, as per the last Lieutenant's contract, reducing the budgeted allocation for the rest of the rank of Lieutenant. Put simply, this increases the overage for Lieutenant from around 40 to approximately 125. This overage will be reduced over the coming months as more and more Lieutenants are promoted to LSA and LCD, but this will take some time. In all liklihood, this means that the the first group of Lieutenants from the new list will be promoted in June.

What is the Captain vacancy? I know PBMN is short a few.
Lts have it too good they dont want to leave
my command has 8 Lts 3 have over 20yrs

It's not looking good for Lt. promos......yet. That last batch they promoted to retire the list put them way over it seems. Hang in there, be patient, and stay out of trouble until your number is called!

My last count, we're about 44 over. On average they make approximately 22 lts a month. If you do the math, May/June sounds about right.

Allocating more or less LSA, LCSD does not affect the Rank of LT as they are still considered the Rank of LT. Currently I am hearing they are still 40 over.

I was reading the teletype today and noticed 1 LSA retired...only problem is, page #2 had a LT withdrawing his retirement papers...lol...so it is status quo...

Reading the messages, it's look around 2-3 LTs retire a week...going to be a long time...my take on it... weirdface

Where you going to find a job making over a hundred thousand? People are beginning to see that it's foolish to retire at 40 yrs of age. There are a lot of benefits to staying to at least 25 yrs. That's a lot more money your banking away for your future. I probably won't be leaving at 20 either.

February is dead wrong and it's looking like June from what i've been told. Think about what your saying, it doesn't make any sense. They're 83 over quota but they are going to do a class next month. In any case although I don't have any exact number, they are not over by that much. I have been told February promotions are for Sgt's and Capt's. NO LT'S!

There used to be 253 people above the rank of captain.Now there are 320.
There are 438 captains and it used to be 453.Prior to the lLarge Lt promotion there was 1711 Lts Now there are 1792... 81 over so if they wait to go back to 1711 it could be a long wait.....

This list is going to crawl so hold on and expect a long wait. I believe we would be lucky to see this list make it past 700 names, if it even makes it that far before its cut. Oh and 9555 I liked your avatar.

There were not supposed to be any captain promos either but they r doing 15 of them so that wipes out 15 Lt's. Also my boy who is a LT just got cleared by the medical board for 3/4's so that will be 16. Keep the faith.

Im in the low sixties and I received a call at my office from a person "KTD" who said my list number has been cleared for promotion. I received the call the end of December. does anyone know is this just SOP or is this in anticipation for promotions during the first part of the year

The clock starts ticking once the list is promulgated. The date the list is established should be stamped on the first page of the list.

You are correct.The list was put out for INFORMATIONAL purposes only.The list has not been promulgated as of yet.The minute the job promotes Lts.from it the clock will start ticking.I believe a finest came out explaining all this....

i am not so much worried about dying on the list, i am a bit bothered by the fact that i may not get the opportunity to take the captains exam.......i am the HIGH 500's and figure by the time they get around to starting our list, by the time they get to me, the next capt exam will be given. furious

Also, someone wrote how people are getting phone calls telling them their name is cleared for promotion? I am just under 60 on the list and haven't heard a thing. From what I remember about being promoted to Sergeant eight years ago, I never got a phone call back then, it just came down in the orders one day. Should I have received a phone call already or is there some kind of open investigation on me!!! weirdface

i think you only get a phone call if you were "pending" in some sort of way, such as making up educational requirements or if you got jammed up somewhere along the line and you had to go thru "the process" to get cleared........I got promo to sgt 2 and half yrs ago, and no phone call.

teshiachris, you leave a pretty big matzaball out there with the Capt. promo statement. How solid is that info? I have been checking the numbers and haven't seen any real vacancies till March. If you have good intell please share.

Some of you have such wishful thinking. Trust me you will not see promotions till about June or so. They are still way over quota. They need to break even and then have at least 20 vacancies to start promoting. So even if you don't have any sources of info, common sense should tell you, no promotions anytime soon. Stop driving yourselves crazy, it's going to be quite a number of months more before they start. It has nothing to do with whether the job wants to hold the list or not. It's all about the fact that they are well over quota. Plus how many Lt's have you seen retire in the past few months? There have been very few. It's getting slower and slower every year.
